WEIGHT-LOSS TREND 2012: WATER-ASSISTED LIPO

The latest trend in cosmetic surgery is water-assisted liposuction. The procedure uses the Body-Jet, which perfects previous liposuction treatments and is on its way to being an independent liposuction procedure.

The way Body-Jet works is it uses water to remove fat cells that are attached to the connective tissue. This process will also assist fat transfers because it can collect the fat that it removes. Fat transfers are used for fillers in the face, breast augmentations, as well as Brazilian Butt Lifts.

Doctors have said that this procedure is much gentler and less damaging to the body’s connective tissues. They have also noticed quicker recovery time and many people are realizing that the effects are better than that of regular liposuction.

The Body-Jet has been used in Europe and Asia since 2004 and was only FDA approved in 2008. It is only recently that this procedure is gaining in popularity and will be the new trend in liposuction.

BEAUTY TRENDS: THE ‘WELLA BEAUTY BAR’

The Wella Beauty Bar suite for the Golden Globe Awards 2012 was a tremendous success! It took place at the NINE|ZERO|ONE Salon in West Hollywood and celebrities such as Carmen Electra, Housewives, Camille Grammer, Kim Richards, dancers, Cheryl Burke, Karina Smirnoff, TV stars, Ali Fedotowsky, Maria Menounos, Melissa Rycroft, and movie star Jenna Dewan-Tatum showed up to get pampered.

The Wella Beauty Bar had great sponsors: Wella Professional Hair Products, Schick Quattro for Women razors, Fake Bake self-tanner, Miami Oasis perfumes, Bio-Oil, UV Vodka and Teleflora florists.

Haylie Duff arrived with a few friends including Dewan-Tatum, wife of Channing Tatum. The newly single Bachelorette, Ali Fedotowsky, attended and was made over from head-to-toe. She made it very clear that she wasn’t there to get dolled up for anyone in particular; she’s enjoying the single life at the moment.

Karina Smirnoff’s sweet and friendly personality is not only for the cameras on Dancing with the Stars, she is quite a bubbly person off camera. Before settling into her salon chair, she took some time to give a few of the attendees Salsa lessons! She was happy to get her hair, nails, and makeup done as well as a self-tanning session to prepare her for her upcoming trip to Vegas. I was booked for my own self-tanning session, which I’ve never done, but never made it.

Camille Grammer of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, attended the Wella Beauty Bar with her new beau, attorney Dmitri Charalambopoulos. Grammer made sure to grab a new vibrating Schick Quattro razor and joked that she would use this product with her new boyfriend at home. She also left with a bottle of Bio-Oil, claiming "Isn't Bio-Oil for stretch marks? This product is great, I do love it."

Another Real Housewife of Beverly Hills, Kim Richards took home five Bio-Oil bottles – one for each daughter. Richards also discussed her life and how she finds it to be much more balanced now that ex-boyfriend, Ken Blumenfeld, is out of the picture (uhh what was she thinking to even begin with him) She also chose Fiji water as her drink choice instead of any alcohol provided by UV Vodka (good choice Kim.)

Host of Extra, Maria Menounos, got really into it and took it upon herself to style her mother, Stavroula’s, hair.

Melissa Rycroft, former Bachelorette, and husband Tye Strickland couldn’t keep their hands off each other during their spa day. They were spotted snuggling in the Schick Quattro for Women photo booth. They also discussed their new reality show airing in April 2012 on CMT titled Melissa and Tye: A New Reality shadowing their lives at home with daughter, Ava. Are we not tired of these shows yet?

All who attended left looking fabulous and their very best for the Red Carpet!

LIPOSONIX: GOODBYE TO UNWANTED FAT

Non-surgical fat reduction remains a big trend in cosmetic surgical procedures in 2012. Liposonix is new in the non-surgical fat reduction trend and promises customers a drop in one dress or pant size without the fear of operation.

Dr. Leslie Baumann, certified Miami dermatologist, says the product “is focused ultrasound beams that generate heat to a specific area. This causes injury specifically to the fat which is then reabsorbed by the body." The high frequency ultrasound does not harm the body but eliminates fat along the waistline.

Liposonix is the first of the non-surgical fat reduction products to take a one-hour treatment as opposed to several treatments spanning over weeks. Just the one treatment is said to remove one inch around the waist.

Dr. Baumann says of the effect of the product “Only one Liposonix treatment is needed per area and over 8-12 weeks, the body dissolves the fat." The results, however, will not be as noticeable as that of liposuction. It will not be taking the place of regular exercise and healthy dieting, either. It will provide assistance to those who need to lose that last inch around the waist.

The Baumann Cosmetic & Research Institute, Dr. Baumann’s facility, offers the treatments for a cost anywhere between $3500 and $4000 USD. You can get more information at Dr. Baumann’s website http://derm.net/services/patient-services/body-sculpting.

WELLA BEAUTY BAR: CELEB PREP FOR GOLDEN GLOBES

The “Wella Beauty Bar” will take place at the NINE|ZERO|ONE Salon. They will be offering services such as complimentary hairstyles using all Wella Professionals hair products. All attendees will also be welcome to trying out a new spray tan courtesy of Fake Bake. Included also are hand massages by Bio-Oil, a formula used for reducing stretch marks and scars. There are a number of other spa treatments available from the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, such as manicurists and makeup artists to complete the look while drinking refreshments provided by UV Vodka.

Guests will have chances to win luxurious prizes at the Miami Spa Month and will be receiving gift packages including their own personalized razor from Schick Quattro for Women. They will also take home “What’s your dating TrimStyle?” quiz to discover how their dating habits relate to their TrimStyle razor from Schick Quattro.

The “Well Beauty Bar” will ensure everyone is Red Carpet ready!

METABOLISM: SPEED YOURS UP

Your metabolism is as unique to you as your skin and your hair. Don’t be discouraged, though! We have tips to help you speed up your metabolism.

1. Cardio Workouts
Here’s the rule of thumb:
Dr. David Nieman, professor of exercise science at Appalachian State University says “if you do just two to three vigorous bouts of exercise per week for 45 minutes, you could lose a pound of fat every two weeks from the combination of calories expended during exercise plus what you burn afterward.”

If you want to lose weight and be healthy, there’s no way to do it without incorporating exercise!

2. Sleep
By losing one night of sleep, your metabolism drops by five percent! The following morning your body burns carbs 20% slower than normal.

It has also been shown that women consume 329 more calories when sleeping about four hours as opposed to when they sleep about nine hours. You should be averaging about seven to eight hours of sleep a night.

3. Strength Training
Reaching the age of 40 is inevitable and so is the one- to two-pound weight gain per year afterward. This occurs because of the dip in estrogen levels during menopause leading to 50 calories less that is being burned a day.

By doing weight-lifting exercises about three times per week, it would add enough muscle to your build allowing your body to burn an extra 45 calories per day.

4. Eat Healthy
Your brain needs a constant supply of sugar that’s why you food intake is so important. If your blood sugar levels are low and you have a small muscle mass, your metabolism will be slow.

The trick is to consume about 100- to 200-calorie snacks in between meals to keep continuous sugar blood levels. Eating just before bed is just as important! Grabbing a light snack like peanut butter or a graham cracker will help you burn calories while you sleep.

FITNESS TREND: DANCE CARDIO

Dance workouts continue to be the big trends. They will be just as prominent in 2012 as they were in 2011 according to the latest survey. Zumba is the leading form of dance exercise and promises to hold that spot into 2012. Dance workouts as a whole hold the ninth spot on the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Top 20 Worldwide Fitness Trends. There is some prediction that they will climb up the chart come 2013.

The demand for experienced fitness professionals will also increase in 2012. They hold the number one spot on the ACSM Top 20 as it has been for the past five years. This profession will grow at a much faster rate than the average for all occupations through to 2018.

In the number three spot are fitness programs for older adults. As baby boomers age, more are trying to keep their youthful physique and energy by going to the gym. The baby boom generation is at the age of retirement now and they have more time to stay active.

Another big trend is group training. This does not come as a surprise because it is directly related to the economy. By training in groups, the cost of the trainer is divided among the participants.

Valerie Orsini is an LA fitness expert and author of Le Personal Coach. She reminds us “throughout the day you are not going to be a couch potato at the office. You are not going to be taking the elevator but the stairs, parking far away, not taking a cab all the time… When you sit at your desk, don’t just fall in your chair but stand up again and sit down. When you take a shower, after putting on your lotion, before putting your clothes on, you can do 50 push-ups on the wall. Contract your gluts when you’re waiting in line. Suck in your stomach when you’re walking through a door. Guaranteed at the end of the day you have two hours worth of workout and you have not sweated off your makeup.”

Here is the entire Top 20 Worldwide Fitness Trends for 2012 list as per the ACSM:

  1. Educated, certified and experienced fitness professionals
  2. Strength training
  3. Fitness programs for older adults
  4. Exercise and weight loss

FASHION:
HAIR EXTENSION TREND 'GAGA' STYLE

Hair extensions aren't only about creating volume and length anymore. Stylists here in Hollywood are taking them to the next level - moving from the head to the body with clothing lines integrating hair extensions in their designs. Celebrity stylist Charlie Le Mindu is the first to do this. Lady Gaga has sported some of his avant-garde hair and clothing creations. He uses hair extensions exclusively from Hairdreams, a worldwide leading provider of real  hair extensions  for many years.

Hairdreams trend scouts identified two major themes this year when it comes to hair extensions: "crazy country" and "elegant future."  Crazy country has the hair mimicking the look of country side alpine meadows, deep valleys and mountains. The hair is soft, thick and wavy, combined with elaborate braids and colorful strands in bright colors. The "elegant future" is inspired by science fiction films. It consists of futuristic, jagged cuts with a touch of elegance. The hair is long, rich and shiny, highlighted with with a blue or turquoise for a futuristic touch.

Also being sported in hair extensions: accessories of diamonds and feathers.

I personally wear Swarovski Crystals in my hair. Three strands. They are delicate and beautiful.

HOLLYWOOD SURGERY TREND:
‘PIPPA BUTT LIFT’

Pippa Middleton’s butt has inspired the latest plastic surgery craze. Hollywood plastic surgeons are saying they are getting more and more requests. That dress Pippa wore at Kate and William’s wedding has people taking that photo and giving it to doctors. She’s setting trends, crazy trends, and it’s now a phenomenon. It’s being called the ‘Pippa Butt Lift.’ Her behind is more popular than even Hollywood's biggest behinds. First it was Jennifer Lopez, then Kim Kardashian, and now it's Pippa. I just shot a news report on this topic.

Fat is removed from one area of the body (typically the abdomen, hips, or thighs) and injected into the buttocks. Doctors say the secret behind the success of the Middleton booty is the shape. "Pippa’s butt is shapely and curvy, it’s not huge but it has a great roundness.” When patients spend $10,000 to $15,000 for a surgery they want something sizable.

HOLLYWOOD’S ANTI-AGING SECRET:
CAVIAR FAcIAL

A big trend with Hollywood celebs is now the caviar facial. Caviar is protein-rich and has antioxidants. Vida Emanuel is an esthetician to the stars and the Beverly Hills crowd. Her caviar facial is by far the best in Hollywood. It's way more than just caviar. At the Vida Emanuel European Day Spa in Beverly Hills, this treatment includes a caviar mask, a collagen mask, lymphatic drainage and a full IPL laser treatment.

Vida has got hands that dance on the face. She has a very welcoming staff that all know their stuff and take care of you like you are entering their home.

In the caviar there is protein, vitamins (D,E & A), and many minerals. Like our skin, it contains 50-70% water. The reason why it is important to have these kinds of ingredients on our face is that we need to regenerate our cells in order to make and produce more collagen.

She's also famous in Hollywood for her Take Five System. It is a five-step system, that takes five minutes a day that dramatically changes and renews your skin in five days.

HAIR TRENDS:
LATEST FOR THINNING HAIR

So I was having hair extensions done (and I must say they look beautiful and feel so soft and comforting draped down my shoulders..I love them...imagine, an unknown woman from Italy gave up her locks so I could have them)

When I was sitting there, Cesare of "Hair By Cesare" (hairbycesare.com) told me about cancer patients he does and those who have thinning hair.

I was so intrigued by the story and the photos of transformation, he pulled out a beautiful weave and said look at this! It was the most naturally looking and soft feeling grouping of hair (I don't want to call it a wig because it is not) that I had ever felt. It was so well done, I just thought how many women and men can now have full heads of hair when theirs is thinning. It's amazing because it is woven into whatever hair you have on your head.

After asking more questions, I found out the process is the revolutionary Volume + Hair Thickening System and it comes from Hairdreams, the company that does my regular hair extensions. It's the innovative salon solution for fine, thinning hair and severe hair loss. Hairdreams is the only company doing it to this extent and this perfection. MicroLines was used to create the full hair pieces for the cancer patients and those just suffering from thinning hair.

This trendsetting company is the #1, international luxury brand in professional hair lengthening and thickening systems headquartered in Graz, Austria.

They truly have the most natural look and feel for hair selections. Top stylists here in Hollywood and in TV use Hairdreams for A-list clients. More than 40 thousand hairdressers are certified.

Hair loss is a growing concern for many clients today. More and more are looking for new ways to get added fullness and volume for their hair. With this increasing demand in the market, Hairdreams was the first manufacturer to launch the hair thickening solution: Volume+. It's a multi-level volumizing system that helps instantly bring natural fullness back to thin, fine, lifeless hair.

MicroLines is the new proven method for hair loss and thinning hair.

A Hairdreams specialty where the top of the head is supplemented with human hair strands which are hand-tied to a micro-fine “invisible” net to blend in perfectly adding fullness to hair. Hair loss is a sensitive issue, especially with women but it has profound psychological and emotional. It’s a fact that up to 60% of women will experience some kind of thinning hair or hair loss in their lifetime. The increasing aging population, everyday stress, dieting, hormonal changes and daily hair styling are all contributing to thinner hair, breakage and even hair loss

With four full-service hair thickening methods, Hairdreams offers salon clients a new multitude of individualized custom solutions for fine, thin hair and hair loss using its legendary, luxurious 100% human hair strands. The New! Volume+ System includes: Hair Thickening with Hairdreams Hair Strands, MicroLines, TopHair and HighLines.

Each unique hair service helps to supplement hair with premium-grade, hand-selected 100% human hair. Hairdreams hair strands match client’s own hair in color, length and structure creating the most natural look and feel. Application is easy and gentle for the client’s hair and its durability is exceptional allowing clients to carry on their daily routines with no limitations.

and there is also something called:

FITNESS TRENDS:
HOW HOLLYWOOD STAYS IN SHAPE

Here are couple of  top fitness tips and trends they’re doing here this week, simple stuff but everyone’s doing it.

1. GET 20 MUNUTES WEIGHT LIFTING TWICE A WEEK

Make sure that it is heavy enough that you cannot do more than 12 repetitions with good form. Strength conditioning revs up your metabolism so that later on in the day you will be burning more calories even if you are lounging on the couch.

2. BE ACTIVE EVERYDAY

A recent study found that women age 50 and older need a minimum of one hour of exercise a day in order to maintain their weight. This doesn’t mean it has to be a marathon or high intensity. A daily walk will do it. You should be walking fast enough to cover four to five miles in one hour.

FITNESS TREND:
‘WALKI-LATES’

There's a new workout trend hitting Hollywood called “Walki-lates.” It’s a system to improve your walking. Ellie Herman came up with Walk-ilates to improve gait. She says when the MBT shoes came out, she wanted people to get something out of using them. She says that shoe was why she started Walk-ilates. The shoes let people feel what she's telling them to feel when changing their gait. What's wrong with the way we walk? The most common thing is that people sit a lot, and as a result their hip flexors tightening and glutes and hamstrings stop working as well. The glutes are the most important muscles in stabilizing your pelvis when you walk. Walk-ilates focuses on two main concepts: rolling out your tight muscles on a foam roller and rebalancing lower body muscles like the glutes and hamstrings.

Anti-aging trend:
Best Caviar Facial at Vida Emanuel European Day Spa

Vida Emanuel is the owner of the Vida Emanuel European-style Day Spa located in the heart of Beverly Hills and 'she' - is the real deal. A dedicated professional who looks at her job as a 'science' caring about the skin with focused precision and dedication.

Her day spa has high-end medical grade products, similar to those found in dermatologists offices. Vida has the latest products lining her shelves from the top brands and she knows what each one does. Ask her which are the best and she will begin reciting product names explaining each. Vida prides herself on providing the very latest services and techniques while understanding the skin in the way a dermatologist would. Vida, is a skilled esthetician having worked in the medical world for years. She has cosmetology licenses on the West and East Coasts of the U.S., has received recognition in the beauty industry from Western Europe and the Middle East and is a member of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce. What's great about her is her willingness and desire to customize treatments for her clients specific needs.

These days, the Caviar Facial is the hot trend in Hollywood.

Her Caviar Facial goes way beyond anything other spas are doing today. What's different about this extended Caviar Facial is the use of a collagen mask and IPL photo laser anti-aging machine along with the Caviar mask. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) laser treatment, is also referred to as photorejuvenation treatment, or photofacial treatment. It is used, among other things, to reverse the signs of aging. Now, at this boutique spa, the IPL is ‘part’ of the extended Caviar Facial treatment. This facial provides so much more than other Caviar Facials. One can see an immediate difference.

The surface of the skin is undamaged because the lasers permeate through the outer skin layer to repair the skin from the inside out.

Vida Skin Care also provides services such as body detox treatments, lymphatic drainage, cellulite reduction, laser hair removal, threading, waxing, microdermabrasion, European classical facials, Aloe facials, Strawberry & Yogurt facials and Green Tea facials.

The atmosphere at Vida is warm and inviting, as if entering her home. Her entire staff exudes a respectful warmth and sincere concern for the client.

Vita Emanuel sells her own line of products online.

ANTI-AGING TREATMENT:
‘ELECTRIC FACIAL’

A new anti-aging treatment you’ve got to check out is called the Electric Facial. It’s a pseudo face lift that's like a gym workout for the face giving a lifted look for a week. Does it ever. It strengthens the muscles to tighten the face leaving you looked like you had a mini facelift. A mask is put on your face and the galvanic micro-currents help a water-soluble vitamin-infused solution penetrate into the dermal layer of the skin.

The queen of this here in Hollywood is Carina Tanijian of Carina Skin Care in Encino. She’s really the best in the business. I'm amazed how my skin looked afterwards.

The micro-current machine creates muscle memory resulting in firmer skin. She says you will see a lot of chemical changes because the ionization or the galvanic current produces an acidic reaction. That means your pores, muscles and nerves get tighter.  The wrinkles get filled up because your muscles are tighter.  One of the ingredients used is vitamin C, which stimulates the collagen production. It will even out the skin tone because it has bleaching properties and will fight the free radicals that causes aging. When I do it, I feel tight all over and my face is so smooth. The treatment and the full facial and microdermabrasion makes you see results immediately. The galvanic current stimulates new cell growth and cell production, helps with dullness, dryness, and improves a dull complexion.

The results are cumulative. It stimulates your skin tissues and facial muscles. It feels tingly because the blood rushes to the surface on the face to stimulate the facial muscles and the skin tissues. Vitamin C, Zinc and Iron salt go into the skin with the currents and stimulate muscles. Vitamin C fights the main cause of aging, free radicals, evens skin tone and will stimulate collagen production. Zinc helps calm down rosacea, eczema and helps heal blemishes. Iron salt pulls toxins out of the skin. In the end you get a more plump looking face. The more it is done the better the outcome. Initially eight to 12 sessions are recommended to diminish lines and then once a month to maintain.

Cost per treatment: $120.00 USD

BEST HAIR EXTENSIONS IN HOLLYWOOD

Known as a top Hollywood hairdresser and revered by his peers and long time clients - Cesare of 'Hair by Cesare' is known in the Hollywood circles as the fastest hands in town.

Knowledgable on the beauty and fashion scene in
Los Angeles, Cesare is one of the veterans in the business and has become a top expert in extensions.

As a style and extensions pioneer, he has created stunning looks and clients fly in from all over to sit in his chair where he welcomes with straightforward honesty and professional showmanship.

Constantly on the cutting edge, Cesare is always on an educational quest, updated on the latest trends and product lines when it comes to extensions and color. His perfectionist approach does not let anyone leave without 100% satisfaction. I loved his attention to detail which is exactly like I am and his constant explanation and discussion of the process made me feel like a co-creator in the entire look. My extensions were put in effortlessly and quickly considering what I had done in the past. I loved the experience and the time flew by.

Cesare is one of the great ones in this town and if you are coming here for a visit - it's a must stop. He does house calls traveling to where his clients need him and doing extensions in the comfort of their own homes as no extra charge.

As you know covering trends for TV and radio in HollywoodI see the best of the best daily and truly believe Cesare is one of the very best.

I had my new extensions put in by Cesare on April 23rd and I was extremely happy. I love them! You would never know I have extensions!. I didn't want any chemicals or glue used and I got that.

Cesare used "Laserbeamers" on me. Very state of the art! Eight strands were done at a time! Eight strands done in 40 seconds. I had 128 strands put in and I can't tell which is my hair and which are the extensions. The time flew by, sitting in the chair, likely because of his exuberant personality. This procedure was half the amount of time as others and just as good as my previous extensions.

He just put in top-quality human hair from 'Hairdreams'. This system has been called the "creme de la creme" of hair extensions and they are bonded with 'Thermoplastique' which means there is no glue thus no ruining of my hair. The various strand sizes make it possible to customize hair extensions for your individual hair type. The great thing is your own hair can recover during the wearing period and split ends or breakage are prevented from occurring.

How long will they last - four to six months. My last ones lasted a good six and a half months. It really depends on your own hair and your desired hairstyle. The Bondings slowly move away from your scalp along with your natural hair growth. When you run your hand down the back of my hair you don't feel them. It's really amazing.

Cesare takes phone calls and emails from any city in the world and does consultations via Skype.

WELLNESS TREND:
'BREATHING'

The hot wellness trend today is: breathing.

Classes are turning up in L.A. Breathing is a big deal now here and soon to spread. Robert Lee, is a prominent Hollywood fitness trainer. He says breathing helps with stress tremendously. He says for newcomers rhythmic breathing can sometimes be scary because it can bring up all kinds of emotions. For some, taking a breathing class is sort of a cleansing.

When doing this, there is a level of letting go of control. When you breathe, inhaling and exhaling through your mouth, this feeling may arise. If you carry stress throughout your day, and bring it into your breath work, sometimes it comes up and it’s hard to keep it down. That is the purpose of the breath – bring it up so you could clear it out.

Breathing therapy works well for:

- Tension
- Hyperventilation
- Burnout
- Chronic Fatigue
- Sleeping Problems
- Concentration
- Anxiety
- Panic Disorder
- Depression
- Heart Disease

LeBootcamp.com separates itself from the competition because it is personalized for clients. Your account has access to features such as a weekly weight and body fat assessment report, sports cards adapted to your needs and a 30 minute coaching call every week! CELEBRITY YOGA GURU 'YOGI CAMERON'

Now turning to a new book that will teach you how to create a holistic health, overall plan for your life. It will guide you through Ayurvedic yoga principles to better health in just 28 days! It's called The Guru in You written by Yogi Cameron Alborzian, one of the most sought after people today in holistic medicine.

The Ayurvedic guru to the stars and hot off his appearances last week on Dr. Oz and Ellen DeGeneres. Yogi Cameron teaches you how to take a journey to reconnect with your body. As the first male supermodel, Cameron Alborzian had a life that many dream of, traveling the globe, working with the most prestigious designers in the world, partying with celebrities, and appearing in major ad campaigns and cultural landmarks like Madonna's ‘Express Yourself’ video.

His real achievement came when he decided to leave high fashion and investigate the ancient art of Ayurvedic healing. What he learned changed his life, and, after years of study, he now works with Hollywood celebrities to executives of international corporations to bring balance, improved health, and inner peace to their busy lives.

HTR sat down with him recently in West Hollywood at the Fred Segal store. He explained more about his book. The Guru In You refers to that teacher, the knowing in you. It’s a matter of knowing something is right and doing it. Everybody gets that feeling but it’s always masked by too much outer stimulus – texts, emails, food, sleep etc. The main goal with the book was to bring people to their purpose. It’s about getting your mind and body balanced.

He says the book speaks to people who don't have a lot of time and are very busy on the move but want to live a healthier life. It's a four-week plan to detox, boost energy, reduce stress and eat better. He says everyone is unique and there is no one diet or exercise regime that fits all. It’s about following the natural pattern of your body, and each person’s pattern is different.

The Guru in You lays the foundation for change, helping us identify our unhealthy patterns and set our intentions. It teaches you about supplements, breathing exercises, and yoga tailored just for you. This is not a one-size-fits all program. You learn the ancient wisdom that we all have the power to heal ourselves.

It is a four week plan, but he says 28 days is just the start to a better life and to always look at things for the rest of your life. The key is to see beyond 28 days and adopt a new way of living.

Now he wakes up every morning between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM to practice yoga and he does another two to three hours of practice at night.

If you're interested in a personal consultation, therapy treatments, or if you'd like him as a guest speaker for an event email him at:

WORKING WITH A PROFESSIONAL

A trend this year is working out with educated and experienced fitness professionals. This means hiring trainers who are accredited. Hollis Liebman, a Hollywood fitness trainer, says "It's very important to have a trainer because it can save you not only tons and tons of time but you will reach your goals for sure.

He says our goals never really change. Women in particular, want to be leaner and toned. Men want lean muscle mass and abs. Hollis says stick with what works and change what doesn’t. If you keep doing the same thing and expecting different results – you’re doomed for failure. Sounds obvious, but few follow it.

He says he has some advice for women in particular. He says a lot of them are over trained. He sees a lot of women working out long hours, barely eating, and doing things that are too strenuous. This is not meeting or exceeding your goals. He says women do too much strenuous cardio and for all the wrong reasons. They do it to burn calories rather than fat. He says cut the cardio, do some more strenuous weights and eating small meals often throughout the day.

BOOTCAMP

Bootcamp is in, Pilates and stability balls – out!

Bootcamp classes remain huge all over. It is a fast-paced, calisthenics-based interval workout. They are entire body workouts going from one exercise to the next without any rest. They use exercises you know like pushups, jumping jacks and crunches, but what is different here is the intensity. You work hard, sweat a lot, but burn calories like crazy.

People are watching their wallets and want to get the most they could in an hour – and you see results fast. Something like Pilates won’t do that.

Griffin White is a certified personal trainer in Hollywood. He teaches specialized kettle bell boot camp classes. He says that using free weights can be boring and repetitive for a lot of people. The good thing about bootcamp is that there is so much movement and variety: strength, cardio and flexibility. You’re using so many different parts of your body.

FITNESS TREND:
ROLLING

Here’s a trend to keep you're body really agile. It’s called rolling.

It’s big in Hollywood as more and more trainers use it now to warm up the body. Its official name is myofascial release. They’ve been using it for years in rehab centers, but now it’s a hot fitness trend hitting gyms.

Ashley Borden is a celebrity trainer to stars such as Reese Witherspoon and Christina Aguilera. Ashley says you must warm up and limber the body before you go into something more aggressive. She trains everybody, from celebrities to moms, to professionals. She found that rolling out helps with every body type. It’s so healing to the tissue and helps open up the body. It’s something you need to do because everybody is tight, especially if you sit all day long. It brings the body back to its anatomically correct position. When you roll, your body’s more in alignment and you have better performance when you’re training and doing your cardio. You end up getting more out of your workout.

Another trend in gyms now is the rebounder. It’s a tiny low-level miniature portable trampoline. It’s a hot gym tool. Not jarring on the body and gets your cardio up. It’s a great full body workout and a perfect tool if your new years resolution is to get into shape.

NEW YEAR RESOLUTION:
REDUCE STRESS

Women with high-stress jobs face about 88 per cent more risk of a heart attack than if they had low workplace strain. Scientists from Harvard University say stressful positions as those with demanding tasks and little authority or creativity. Those jobs were also associated with a 40 per cent greater chance of getting any kind of cardiovascular disease.

Job strain, social isolation and personality traits have been recognized as raising risks in both men and women, the association said. What's happening to you now in terms of mental tension has long-term effects on your health. The study analyzed job strain in 17,415 people from the Women's Health Study, a project that began in 1991 and ended last year. Researchers used a questionnaire to determine whether women experienced job strain.

The best way to respond to stress may be to increase physical activity, carve out time for soothing activities or meditation, and spend time with a peer group of confidantes. Doctors should ask patients about their stress, since the heart-attack risk linked to psychological stress is almost as much as that associated with high levels of blood cholesterol.

Stress stimulates a biological response in animals called fight or flight and this may raise the heart rate and blood pressure, and may have negative effects on the cells of the heart. Stress can also cause levels of the hormone cortisol to rise, increasing the likelihood of obesity, the website of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota says. Obesity is an additional risk factor for heart disease.

CELEB WORKOUT:
TIPS FROM TRAINER TO THE STARS RON MATHEWS

Ever wonder how celebrities get into shape so quickly for movies?
There is one reason and one reason alone. They are razor focused. They have a goal and they do not quit. I had a chance to speak to Ron Mathews one of Hollywood’s best trainers to the stars. Number one is that they get good advice from good trainers. They don’t waste their time in the gym. They are very efficient, they go in, work hard, and go home. They do all their meals correctly and get lots of rest. The key is consistency. They never miss a day – and the results show.

ANTI-AGING TREND:
FILLER FRENZY

There is a hot trend when it comes to anti-aging. More and more people are turning to fillers in place of cosmetic surgery and fillers are now being used in ways never done before as doctors realize they have to offer less expensive solutions. So how has the economy affected procedures?

The verdict: "Skin is in" and fillers are hot.

Chemical peels and soft tissue fillers like hyaluronic acid are up nine percent, microdermabrasion is up eight percent. These are the procedures that patients are opting for despite the economy and the trend is continuing into 2011.

Fillers are not just Botox - these fillers now create - cheek lifts, brow lifts and chin implants - all done with liquid fillers. The liquid facelift lasts nine months to a year and people can invest less at one time and yet still look great.

Two of the top doctors in Beverly Hills are Dr. Paul Nassif and Dr. David Amron. Together they've dedicated themselves to the development of the finest state-of-the-art dermatology and cosmetic surgery center: Spaulding Drive Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology. They contour and shape the face with tiny needles like no one else. Dr. Nassif is a Beverly Hills facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has received international recognition. Known as a revision rhinoplasty specialist, Dr. Nassif is sought after by patients from around the world for help in correcting some of the most challenging complication cases.

Since the economy has taken a downward turn, the luxury items, especially the elective cosmetic surgery items such as facelifts and other cosmetic procedures of the body and the face, have decreased. Now that the economy is getting a little stronger, some of the patients are opting for smaller procedures instead. Maybe not the big facelift and brow lift, but they’re having fat crafting done, maybe one procedure instead of five procedure or a little rhinoplasty. It is taking a turn from the big downfall of 2007.

Dr. David Amron specializes in cosmetic dermatology and liposuction. He educates patients, teaches them so they can be better informed on all the latest techniques. They have clients from all over the world, and does consultations online. Dr. Amron does photo phone consultations. Many of his patients are not local patients and it’s a very big thing. He’s reaching out outside of Los Angeles and has patients from around the world. Patients send their photographs in, he evaluates them and gives his opinions about it and only has them go out to L.A. if there is an agreement.

ULTIMATE FIGHTING GOES MAINSTREAM

Ultimate Fighting is the hottest thing right now, the fastest growing sport in the world. Not long ago, the sport catered to a specific niche of enthusiasts, but recently it has made a big boom and is going mainstream.

Thanks to a Montreal celebrity athlete trainer, people are now beginning to use the training techniques of these fighters to reach their own fitness goals.

Jonathan Chaimberg has trained professional martial artists, hockey players, baseball players, fitness models and singers at his Montreal-based fitness center called Adrenaline Performance Center where he trains his athletes and regular clients.

He is the trainer behind celebrity athletes Georges St-Pierre, Rashad Evans, and Russell Martin.

Not only does he train the professionals, but he is also the expert in bringing Ultimate Fighting Workouts to the general public at his studio in Montreal.

Now this isn't about getting the body of a fighter at all. It’s to get regular workouts but with the techniques fighters use in a mainstream way. It's a trend that’s growing daily.

Ultimate Fighting has gotten a much broader appeal in the last two years. There are a lot of Hollywood celebrities that are seen at various Ultimate Fighting events showing interest in the sport: George Clooney, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Jude Law, Robert Downey Jr., Paris Hilton, Guy Ritchie, Keanu Reeves, David Spade, Snoop Dogg and Shaquille O’Neal.

The good news is that you don't need to be a professional fighter to be lean, strong and have the endurance of one.

He offers training sessions but what's interesting is his group classes: He incorporates the Ultimate Fighting techniques in a group training setting. The hot classes now are: Pro Circuit and Metabolic Blast.

Jonathan takes the most complex movements that he gives his fighters and adapts them to whoever he’s training with the hopes of eventually progressing them to elite levels. The person exercising benefits from the compound movements throughout the whole progression.

Here’s what you will like to hear: this mainstream Ultimate Fighting workout trend has you burning fat even hours after your workout!

There is a concept called EPOC, which stands for Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption. It is a process of raising the level of lactic acid in the body which causes an unsteady chemical balance. For the body to flush out that lactic acid it brings in oxygen. This involves burning calories and raising metabolism – and continues to after the workout in order to fully flush everything out. There are studies that have shown that it could be burning up to 72 hours after a workout. You definitely get the most bang for your buck with this kind of training.

Jonathan Chaimberg runs Adrenaline Performance Center headquartered on on Jean Talon near Decarie in Montreal, Canada.

A survey of 15 thousand individuals and over 26,000 households showed the following findings:

28.6% were 55 years of age or older. They were active using strength equipment (23%), conditioning activities (25%) and walking for fitness (33%).

People ages 65 years and older also do aquatic exercise and Tai Chi more than any other age group. They also like stationary cycling, using the treadmill and walking.

RED WINE PROVEN TO HELP LOOSE WEIGHT

Drinking red wine can help you keep your weight down.

Researchers studied nearly 20,000 normal-weight people for 13 years. Over time, those who drank a glass or two of red wine a day were 30 percent less likely to be overweight than the nondrinkers

The reason: Digesting alcohol triggers your body to burn calories.

Alcohol also may burn calories due to a process called thermogenesis, Alcohol raises your body temperature (one reason some people get red cheeks when drinking), causing the body to burn calories to create heat.

HOLLYWOOD BEAUTY TREND:
MICRO-NEEDLING - DERMA ROLLER

Now turning to beauty trends and this one is good for men too!

There's a new procedure called micro-needling and it can actually help reduce and eliminate fine lines and shallow wrinkles. This procedure has been around in Europe for some time now. The best part is: it costs less than $100 and you can do in your own home!

The device used is called the Derma Roller

The makers of the Derma Roller claim that in addition to reducing the appearance of sun damage and wrinkles such as crow’s feet, it can help smooth out pitted skin and dimpling. It works by breaking down the collagen within a wrinkle and the skin reacts by re-building new collagen giving you smoother, healthier, new skin.

The Derma Roller is a small hand held roller with 192 surgical steel micro-needles that are able to penetrate the pores of the top layer of the skin. These pores close again in an hour or so, however, during this time your body releases growth factors that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Basically, your skin goes through a process called remodeling.

In addition, during that hour or so after using it, your skin is able to better absorb and utilize any moisturizing or anti aging creams you apply.

INCREASE ENERGY:
CHECK YOUR PLATE

When it comes to increasing energy, the right food is still nature's best medicine.

One hidden cause of fatigue is dehydration. It's something that many people can't quite identify with. If you're feeling a little low, a glass of water may be the jolt you really need.

The experts say to try these dietary tactics to make you feel better.

  • Drink as much water as it takes to keep your mouth and lips moist throughout the day, and so that your urine is clear enough to read through.
  • If you have chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia and have low blood pressure, you can increase your salt intake—especially sea salt, for minerals—when your body craves it.
  • Avoid simple sugars. These end in "-ose" like glucose, sucrose, maltose or dextrose—but not ribose.
  • You should also avoid syrups, any grain that isn't 100% whole grain and saturated and trans fats.
  • Aim to consume a diet of high-quality protein from nuts and fish, and cut down on carbs.
  • Include lots of fruits, vegetables and 100% whole grains.

HEALTH TREND:
FOOD WITH BENEFITS

Nutritional, healthful, good-for-you - the trend toward beneficial foods is growing at a good rate.

Food now either has nutrients added, or have things removed (gluten-free, allergy-free).

Just last year we talked about functional food, which was really about adding ingredients to pump up the nutritional value.

Before that, it was fortified.

ENERGY DRINKS:
TOP 4

The drink that continues to gain popularity: energy shots.

The energy shot business revenue is expected to reach $500 million by the end of the year but beware - sugar and carbohydrate contents in energy drinks average at an alarming 27 grams per can, leading to a "crash" after the effects wear off.

One drink, ROCKSTAR Punched Guava, has an astounding 102 grams of sugar. That's four times as much as a glass of chocolate milk.

The leader in the energy market today with zero sugar content and only four calories per serving is the 5-Hour Energy shot. When it comes to energy shots, 5-hour has everyone playing catch up. 5-Hour Energy outsells its competition combined by a rate of 2.5 to 1.

Other highly ranked energy shots:

Stacker2 6 Hour Power: it comes in a variety of flavors and is a distant second to 5-Hour Energy.

NOS: NOS enjoys the benefit of having the Coca-Cola machine behind its product.

ROCKSTAR: ROCKSTAR's energy shot with the backing of Pepsi-Cola, has already generated significant sales.

FITNESS TREND:
'ELITE' GYMS

A big trend right now has regular gyms turning into luxury gyms which center around well-being and fun. These are called elite gyms or ultimate gyms.

One of the hottest elite gyms is Drive 495 in New York City.

People spend $5,000 for a yearly membership at this club designed by the man who did the Ritz Carlton Central Park South.

At Drive 495 one floor is dedicated to fitness and the other is a golfer's paradise, with three-dimensional simulators that take you through 31 golf courses from around the world.

For $25,000, the unlimited membership gives you 365 days of access to golf lessons or personal training sessions.

Then there are the elite gyms that stay on top of the latest fitness trends to keep members happy such as the San Francisco Bay Club and the Houstonian Club in Houston, Texas.

At the 90,000-square-foot San Francisco Bay Club, located near the city's financial district, there's been a shift away from exercise machines that focus on one plane of movement, like a simple leg lift. Instead the majority of the equipment is free-motion equipment - one piece will move you in 12 different directions.

The Houstonian Club, offers 110 classes per week and has a staff of 30 certified personal trainers who create programs to truly challenge members. Enrollment is from $12,000 to $24,000, before an average monthly fee of $200 kicks in.

It's all in the details...
High-end clients tend to expect the best because they know what's available, with many belonging to multiple facilities due to their hectic schedules and a need for convenience.

At the world's most luxurious gyms you can now find private televisions that display dozens of virtual courses and simulates an outdoor ride. The bike is equipped with handlebars that turn left and right, and you can even choose to compete against the person next to you. You could log on to a Web site afterward and you can gauge your progress or see if you made the leader board.

It's also common now to find exercise equipment fit for pro athletes as well as diagnostic medical tests and endless varieties of spa treatments specially designed to pamper your body.

Luxury gyms are thriving in cities by finding new ways to cater to their busy, health-oriented and often wealthy clientele.

Health clubs are growing their revenues and membership retention by offering more opportunities for people to pay for non-dues-related programs, such as personal training, pro shops, spa services and food and beverages. Clubs drew close to $1 out of every $3 in revenue from non-dues sources.

Now, gyms are more than just a big room filled with fitness equipment. They are upscale, luxurious, very all-inclusive with coffee bars and pools. There's definitely an entertainment value, and you certainly get what you pay for. You really feel taken care of.

Along with going high-scale, workouts are becoming high-tech. LA fitness trainers say women and men can get any fitness regime now on their iPods too.

ALTERNATIVE TO FACELIFT: THE FACE WRAP

There's an alternative to going under the knife when it comes to your face. It's called The Face Wrap and it's an all-natural non-surgical facelift that hydrates, tightens and plumps the skin, and pulls out the impurities from beneath.

The secret is in the mineral jar that combines 82 trace minerals. It sculpts the face as it draws out impurities from the pores. It's kind of like a mini facelift and deep cleanse that you can do at home. First, you mix the minerals with water, and then you dip the wraps in the liquid. The different Velcro wraps are placed on the forehead, chin and parts of the face. You wear the wraps for one hour. The results are cumulative, so the more you use it, the less often you will eventually have to use it. According to the company, it takes a decade off the aging process. If you see the pictures, some results are pretty incredible.

The initial kit costs $129 US. Refills of the minerals are $95 US. To view the step-by-step face wrap application video, or read more about it, check out the website at: thefacewrap.com.

WELLNESS TREND: HYPERBARIC THERAPY

Now turning to something brought to light by Michael Jackson, and the trend of using Hyperbaric Therapy (HBT). It's a way of delivering more oxygen to the body at the cellular level. HBT provides the optimal environment for the body to carry out vital cell processes, increasing the capacity for the body to heal itself and since it heals at the cellular level, which is critical for changes to be made, it in turn affects healthy tissue formation. This healthy tissue formation makes it possible for healthier organs to utilize filtered pressurized ambient 'air' to dissolve oxygen directly into the plasma, cerebral and spinal fluids, flooding tissues and vital organs with oxygen.

SIZE OF THE BRAIN

Psychologists have found that the size of different parts of the brain is linked to personality.

Brain scans of 116 volunteers showed that conscientious people tend to have a bigger lateral prefrontal cortex, a region of the brain involved in planning and controlling behavior. Very extroverted people have a significantly larger part of the brain - just above and behind the eyes.

Here is the best: Your personality is not fixed from birth.

Rather experiences change the brain as it grows, which can change your personality. Your pain, your joys and your life change your actual personality as time goes on.

PLASTIC SURGERY:
WHY WOMEN GET BREAST ENHANCEMENT

Who makes up the majority of breast enhancement patients?

Most common are young women, often from professional backgrounds, who are flat-chested or have uneven breasts. Doing it for confidence is the reason patients give most frequently.

These are the women who have never had any breasts who do it to boost their self-esteem. Mostly, they are women doing it before children, but there are many moms who go under the knife for rejuvenation.

There is a 10-year review of the safety of silicone breast implants, ordered by US authorities, which got under way in 2000 and is soon to be concluded.

After eight years, 16.8 percent of women in the study had encountered a problem with their implants known as capsule contraction - their implants had hardened as a result of pressure applied by surrounding, naturally growing collagen in the breast.

When they were casting for Pirates of the Caribbean sequel this time - interesting note – they posted for actress with real breasts only.

Now turning to the new trend of E-Cycling, Electric Bikes.

Do you remember that easy pedaling after you get your bike up to speed? That's the cruising feeling you get all the time with an electric bike.

It is gaining popularity in North America but it is all the craze in China.

These days, companies such as Canadian based Schwinn from Dorel Industries are giving them more focus.

You've heard it in the headlines and yes, in 2010, it's still very popular here in Hollywood. It was the #1 laser treatment last year, and it's almost equally as popular for men, as it is for women.

Fraxel is a non-invasive laser treatment that helps improve skin's sun damage, wrinkles or other signs of aging. The lasers shoot deep into the dermis to create tiny wounds. This then triggers your body's natural response system to heal those wounds. The process causes your body to reproduce, new fresh collagen and elastin, which results in tighter, fresher and more youthful-looking skin. The cost for any Fraxel treatment can vary anywhere between $750 - $5000 USD. To find a doctor near you, visit fraxel.com.

BOTOX ALTERNATIVE: SCULPTRA

If you're looking for an alternative to Botox, try Sculptra. It's still a popular choice. It's non-invasive and doctors call it the liquid facelift. The treatments should be done three times every four to six weeks. Each session takes about 20-30 minutes. Results can last up to two years. To check it out, at sculptra.ca.

BOTOX vs. RESTALYNE

I know there are a lot of people who ask ‘what's the real difference between Restalyne and Botox?.' Well, Restalyne is a filler, while Botox paralyzes wrinkle muscles. It's best for the bottom half of the face, in nasel labial folds near the nose going down to the mouth. Restalyne is a great quick fix that averages about $550 USD per cc (1 cc is fine for the lips). Botox temporarily paralyzes muscles. Make sure to get a properly trained doctor, no one else. It reduces wrinkles in the forehead and crow's feet near the eyes. ANTI- AGING: THE WIDE AWAKE FACELIFT

A truly remarkable anti-aging procedure that men and women are lining up for here in Los Angeles and has taken Hollywood by storm is the facelift without anesthesia. It's called The Wide-Awake Factlift lift also known as "The Simoni Lift".

From Beverly Hills, Dr. Payman Simoni, a twice board certified Facial Plastic Surgeon by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery and the American Board of Head and Neck Surgery is the genius behind this concept. Simoni has been doing this revolutionary lift while the patient is sitting upright and wide-awake.

How is it done? He freezes each area as he moves around the face and neck. It's really incredible. The Simoni Lift is a minor, one-hour to 90-minute procedure with long lasting natural results. He designed it to improve sagging jowls, cheeks, loose neck and facial skin without the need for major anesthesia. Recovery is quicker and so much more comfortable than with a traditional facelift. Using local anesthesia, the only thing you feel is an injection, because each section is frozen. The procedure is not done in an operating room, but a regular, nicely decorated office with relaxing music playing. All throughout the procedure, the doctor is speaking to you normally!

How does it feel? There is less bruising and there is no danger going under. It's truly unbelievable and his touch is so on the mark, the faces are perfect, no stretching, and no pulled back look. Everyone looks like themselves just younger and well rested. Simoni also performs liposuction, tummy tucks and eye lid surgery like this, without anesthetic. His work is artwork. I've seen the results on the mini-face lift and they're just great. People look exactly like themselves but completely rested and vibrant.

This is the kind of facelift you want. It's definitely worth flying to L.A. to come in and get it done. This is the way to do it: you would stay at a hotel with a loved one for a week following the procedure, then go for your follow up checkup one week later and you're done.

To reach Dr. Paymen Simoni at 'Simoni Plastic Surgery of Beverly Hills', call 310-360-1360. Tell him I told you to call. You can also email him at: help@dr.simoni.com.

TREATMENT FOR HOLLYWOOD'S A-LISTERS: THEATA HEALING

Theta Healing is a technique making headlines in Hollywood. Dr. Kenneth Best is a leading Theta Healing practitioner. The technique uses theta brain waves and there's a frequency that connects and lets the cells talk to each other. It helps reprogram negative thoughts you send to yourself.. Ken Best is a celebrity holistic practioner of applied kinesiology and a chiropractor. He has worked on the casts of ‘24', ‘Brothers and Sisters' and Hollywood movies helping with all sorts of back issues. Now he's helping Hollywood with the energy psychology

Dr. Best says celebrities especially find Theta Healing helpful. He says, "Theta healing uses the theta brain wave which is most dominant when we're asleep dreaming or when we are under deep hypnosis; And it's the frequency that cells communicate to other cells in the body. So, this allows us to connect with a creative force and with the cells in the body. When we're here talking, we're in the beta, so we're in a much higher level of frequency. But, it's at the lower frequencies that cells actually talk to other cells in the body. So Alpha is when you're meditating, visualizing in your mind. When you go into a deeper state, like when you're hypnotized, that's theta. You're using a different part of the brain."

Celebrity Anti-aging Secret: La Peau

JA skincare product making headlines, with actresses like Eva Longoria, is an antioxidant "face cream" from Switzerland that delays the aging process. It's the science-based product called LA PEAU. I've got to say, from the moment I put this on my face, my skin felt so much better. It was actually weird how fast I felt the results. It's texture melted on my skin. Not greasy, very smooth, and very light. It actually feels cool and refreshing the "moment" you put it on. Vitamins and antioxidants penetrate into skin hydrating & regenerating it. It protects the skin against oxidation, which is an aging factor. The company says it reduces fine lines and wrinkles after 28 days of use. I haven't used it that long but I can say, my skin looks and feels so silky and I've been under a lot of stress lately! Dermatologists and plastic surgeons use it after surgery or just for anti-aging. The creams have a base of a new proprietary complex called the BeCell. This revolutionary complex stimulates cellular metabolism, therefore rejuvenating the skin.

There is a Night Cream-Gel, a Day Cream-Gel and an Eye Contour.

The products cost anywhere between $60.00 and $215.00 US.

The head office is Geneva Switzerland but they also have an office in Canada, in Montreal.
