KARDASHIANS: SCANDELOUS TELL-ALL ON THE WAY?

Just when you thought you knew everything about the Kardashians, the former Kardashian nanny is shopping for a literary agent and is in the first step to getting a publishing deal for her new Kardashian Tell-All. Pam Behan worked as a nanny, personal assistant, and cook for Bruce Jenner, his wife Kris, and their children.

Bruce's sons, Brandon and Brody Jenner, will not be depicted nicely, referring to them as "spoiled and disrespectful." She describes her relationship with mother Kris Jenner as a "love/hate" one and Bruce is the only family member positively portrayed in the book. Even certain intimate details of Kim and Kourtney will be revealed, which is a shock to the family as the girls were apparently quite keen on Behan.

The Kardashian-Jenners have no comment.

KARDASHIAN OPI NAIL POLISH LINE: PROFITS SHARED EQUALLY

All six Kardashian ladies (Kris, Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kylie and Kendall) signed a deal with OPI in March for a Kardashian nail polish line. The colors in the line include:

Sealed with a Kris - an intense dark red tone
Kim-pletely In Love – a soft, delicate pale pink hue
Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam – an eye-catching dark emerald
Listen to Your Momager! – a striking deep blue tone

The family received $600,000 up front in addition to a cut of the profits. The money is being divided equally between all the women, even though Kim is on another level of star power.

Each lady requested to be paid through their very own corporations. They have names like Kimsaprincess Inc., 2Die4Kourt Inc. and KhloMoney Inc.

ANN’S EARLY OSCAR PREDICTIONS: BEST ACTRESS

Meryl Streep: ‘The Iron Lady

Meryl Streep has a total of 16 nominations. Has won two but his year will likely be her third with her role in The Iron Lady playing Margret Thatcher.  She’s on to a good star. She won the Best Actress award from the New York Critics. She does a great job with a beautiful performance, once again, in a very challenging role. To play a real life person is so tough, especially when it’s someone like Margaret Thatcher, the first female Prime Minister of the U.K. Meryl really captures the essence and the nuances of the famous character.

Viola Davis in ‘The Help

The entire cast in The Help was amazing. Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer were incredible. Viola Davis, though, really stood out and is getting lots of attention for her portrayal of a maid, Aibileen, in early 1960’s Mississippi. Of her character, Viola said:  “It’s very hard for Aibileen to tell her story because she has been told she’s invisible. All of the sudden someone says ‘Who are you?’ Two people from very different world and dangerous circumstances come together and enter into each other’s lives.”

Glenn Close:Albert Nobbs’

Glenn Close stars in Albert Nobbs, a role she played on Broadway some 30 years ago. She has produced this film and was passionate about playing in it but it was very hard to get a movie like this approved by studios. Getting it done took some 15 years for her, having written the screenplay beginning five years ago. It is a low budget production. On playing the role, Glenn says: “It’s kind of a consummate challenge. It took a lot of thought, a lot of craft – very tricky character. Having played her on stage I was convinced that this story had huge power emotionally to affect an audience.”

Michelle Williams: ‘My Week with Marilyn

Michelle Williams, in My Week with Marilyn, was challenged with playing the role of an ico but rather than imitate Marilyn, Michelle really brought her to life on screen. Hours and hours of study made this possible and she executed it beautifully. She is better than the movie itseld. One thing that helped her a lot was watching old Marilyn movies: “"I started with The Prince and the Showgirl. I started watching that movie while my daughter was in school, absorbing as much as I could, pausing it, trying to emulate what I had seen. I made a lot of mistakes, completely clueless, and then, one day, things started to come together." She went on to explain how deeply she got to understand Marilyn as a person, not just the character she portrayed. "I missed a major point about her in the beginning, which is that the Marilyn Monroe that we know and love is a character," she said. "It's a character that she created and played to perfection for all of us. But it wasn't her. And everything that I've read supports the idea that she was quite an ordinary-looking girl with an ordinary walk, an ordinary voice - that she had the kind of face that could fall apart in between glances. 'Marilyn Monroe' was a burst of energy that she put forth and because she was as talented an actress as she was, she pulled it off seamlessly. It's very easy to get attached to this idea of a hyper-sexualized walk and a sort of babyish, kittenish voice because we want that to be real and she succeeded but in fact, there was an entirely different human being underneath all of that.

Kirsten Dunst for ‘Melancholia’

Kirsten’s character of a bride on her wedding day while the world is collapsing around is a complicated one an this movie is not for everyone but Kirsten is great and I am not a fan of her or her work – until now. She’s really excited about the Oscar buzz she’s been getting. That would be awesome!" she exclaimed, beaming. "I would embrace that. I mean, yeah, winning Cannes was pretty spectacular. I’m very grateful. I felt if I was nominated [for an Oscar], I would be very, very grateful and honored. My family would be so happy and crying, yeah. It would be great because my family really celebrates things. I don’t want to jinx things either."

When she was 12, Kirsten was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in Interview with the Vampire. She lost. "Well, I lost," she recalled, "so I remember being a little kid and crying. I’m a little girl and everyone is like 'You’re gonna win! You’re gonna win!' And then I was like, 'uh, I didn’t win.' I was at a table with the cast of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and my Mom was like, 'Hide your face! Hide your face!” (and yes these are her exact quotes. Yikes)

ANN’S EARLY OSCAR PREDICTIONS: BEST ACTOR ALBERT BROOKS

Prediction: Albert Brooks will not only be nominated but will WIN Best Supporting Actor for his role of Bernie in the thriller Drive also starring Ryan Gosling. By the way, he was born Albert Einstein into a family of comedians: His brother is Bob Einstein, known as "Super Dave" Osbourne and was on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

On the character, Albert says: “Bernie spent his life dealing in legal to illegal situations depending on how he wants to make his money. I’ve never played a guy you really don’t want to fool around with.”

Producer Marc Platt says:  “For Albert Brooks to play a gangster and a guy who has his own anger, can lash out and kill within an instant is fascinating to watch.”

Brad Pitt for ‘Moneyball’

Despite more than 23 years as an actor and involvement in many critically acclaimed films, Brad Pitt hasn’t won the big award but he has not deserved a win yet. He has been nominated twice. Once in 1995 for Best Supporting Actor in Twelve Monkeys and in 2008 for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Both roles were great but in those years the competition was stiff. Now he’s getting buzz for his role in Money BallThe New York Film Critics Circle awarded him wi Best Actor for his work in both Moneyball and the The Tree of Life. Now, I’d say he’s officially one of the frontrunners in this year’s Oscar race.

George Clooney for ‘The Descendants’

George has already won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2008 for Syriana and two Best Actor nominations for Michael Clayton and Up in the Air. He shrugs off early Oscar buzz talk: “I don’t pay attention to that. I’ve been on both sides of that equation a few times now and what I have learned about it is: whenever someone says that, they’re complimenting the work and for that you say ‘thank you’. It’s a very nice thing to say. It’s the result of a lot of people doing a lot of hard work.” (this guy has got his head so screwed on properly, its such a pleasure to see but he is one of the rare ones)

MADONNA:
DIRECTING ‘W.E.’

Madonna has set trends for decades and she’s behind the camera to bring history to the screen with W.E. Arriving in theaters early next year, W.E. is a two-tiered romantic drama that parallels the story of Wallis Simpson and her involvement with heir to the British throne, Prince Edward, and an American housewife circa 1998 who is obsessed with the story. Along with directing, Madonna co-wrote the film. She feels pressure when directing because it’s something relatively new to her. “I had the same kind of pressure when I began my music career and I was nervous and I didn’t know what to expect and people didn’t know what to expect and I had to earn my way in the world of being taken seriously in the music department and now I am well aware that I have to do the same in the world of film.”

LEONARDO DICAPRIO: CHALLENGES WITH ‘J. EDGAR’ ROLE

Leonardo DiCaprio is likely up for a Best Actor nomination this year for his role in J. Edgar. It’s Clint Eastwood’s contribution of the year. Leo admits this was a real challenging one. It's extremely complex, and he portrays a man who was considered to be the most corrupt government official in modern history in The US. “The biggest challenge was something that was very clearly defined in the screenplay for me. How do you, not necessarily sympathize, but empathize with this human being? And not necessarily empathize, but how do you understand his motivations and how that manifested itself into politics and it was very intriguing to discover Dustin Lance Black’s screenplay because here for the first time I kind of understood what motivated him. At a very young age, his mother wanted him to rise to great power in politics and carry on the Hoover name to great glory and he was a young boy genius so he came into this bureau and really transformed our country and really organized modern forensics and rid our country of communist radicals and captured all the outlaws and really put a face on a federal system of police enforcement that to this day is incredibly intimidating.”

TIM ALLEN:
BACK ON TV

Tim Allen is making headlines again. He is being highlighted on 60 minutes and is doing all the talk shows. He's back with his new TV show on ABC and he says he just wants to do what he does best. Last Man Standing marks the return of Tim Allen 12 years after the final season of Home Improvement. Much like in the previous series, Allen plays a “guys-guy” family man, but the difference here is that he’s surrounded by three daughters.

He says for this one, he realizes the show is not reinventing the wheel. “I don’t think there will be anything about this that is that different. That’s not why we did it. We’re not trying to be cute, not trying to be clever, not trying to break. I like the five camera, four camera sitcom mold, I liked it on Home Improvement, I like watching it. I like Modern Family quite a bit. That’s not shot like this, it’s very different. There’s a sensibility about that show that I like, that was not a model, but the reason I would start this venture into television was partly because I really enjoyed the dynamics of all those people. Good writing I think is back in television right now as opposed to movies, no offense to the movie people. I love doing movies, but right now I found several cases where the writing on television was just stellar and I’m hoping to raise this to that level. “

AMANDA SEYFRIED:
STARRING IN ‘LOVELACE’

Amanda Seyfried, who has signed on to star as Linda Lovelace in Lovelace, a biopic about the '70s porn actress, is filling in for Kate Hudson, who had the role before she got pregnant. Kate Hudson and James Franco were offered the lead roles but no deal was ever reached. Olivia Wilde was also interested in playing Linda Lovelace. Seyfried currently stars in the sci-fi thriller In Time.

Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman will direct Lovelace from a screenplay by Merritt Johnson and Andy Bellin. The screenplay is adapted from Eric Danville’s book, The Complete Linda Lovelace. It is the story of Linda Lovelace being discovered by Chuck Traynor, who turned her into a famous porn star. She ends up marrying him, and divorcing him blaming him for getting her into the adult entertainment industry.

Amanda chooses her roles based on what inspires her. “I think early on there was so many opportunities and I took the ones that spoke to me. I got scripts for young, dumb teenage girls and I didn’t do them because there were projects out there that were much more interesting and sophisticated and I just chose them. I was lucky I guess. Now my goal is, my first task at hand is to choose something different than the last project.”

Shooting of Lovelace is expected to begin in January.

CELEBRITY TREND:
MAKING MONEY FROM TWEETS

There's a new celebrity trend that has the Kardashians and Charlie Sheen among stars earning up to $71 per character for sponsored tweets. More than ever before, brands have been paying for influential Twitter users to write about their products since Justin Bieber was just barely over 1 million followers. A tweet can run $10,000 or more. Companies pay for actors, musicians and reality stars to tweet now. Kim and Khloe Kardashian tweet about their products all the time.

CampusLIVE, is a website that connects advertisers with university students. It paid Lindsay Lohan $3,500 for a tweet about the company. Why? Because she has 2.6 million followers. It prompted 4,500 clicks. It won't use her again as the one tweet tapped her fan base now.

CELEB STUFF: EDDIE MURPHY QUITS OSCARS AND HE’S THE MOST OVERPAID ACTOR

ACCORDING TO CNN: Eddie Murphy is not hosting next year's Academy Awards, one day after colleague and show producer Brett Ratner quit over an anti-gay remark he made over the weekend.

"I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well," said Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The 84th Academy Awards program is scheduled for February 26.

Murphy worked with Ratner, a director, in the newly released action comedy "Tower Heist."

"First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party's decision with regard to a change of producers for this year's Academy Awards ceremony," Murphy said in a statement. "I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I'm sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job."

Ratner met with the representatives of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation before announcing his resignation, GLAAD said in a news release Tuesday.

When asked during a question-and-answer session whether he rehearses with his actors before shooting a scene, Ratner replied, "Rehearsing is for f*gs," GLAAD said in its release, citing New York Magazine's Vulture blog.

"Over the last few days, I've gotten a well-deserved earful from many of the people I admire most in this industry expressing their outrage and disappointment over the hurtful and stupid things I said in a number of recent media appearances," Ratner said in a letter about this resignation, which was given to CNN by his representative, Allan Mayer. "To them, and to everyone I've hurt and offended, I'd like to apologize publicly and unreservedly."

Meantime…we found out recently that Eddie Murphy and Drew Barrymore topped Forbes Magazine's 2011 edition of their list of Hollywood's Most Overpaid Actors. They looked at what stars made for their last three movies. Barrymore returns just 40 cents for every dollar the studios spend on her. The number two performer on the list is Eddie Murphy. His most recent films, ImagineThat and Meet Dave, have been bombs. Murphy returns $2.70 for every dollar spent on him. Eddie’s latest movie is Tower Heist which did great its opening weekend…

Eddie's not likely to bring the life of his old pal Richard Pryor to the big screen. “We had a couple of conversations about Richard Pryor but it never really got past stage one. There’s a great script out there still that Bill Condon wrote and I was trying to get the script and get him to direct it, that’s something that’s in the air. The script that I read was incredible but we never got past the first stage of conversation.”

IN CONVERSATION:
ANTONIO BANDERAS

Antonio Banderas, star of Puss in Boots says it was a real team effort. From the outside you just see the actor, but Antonio explains there is a huge group behind each major film. There is so much involved from the design of the character to the movement, the technology and the creativity. He said the director gave him a lot of freedom.

Antonio says he finds complexity in the character of the swash-buckling feline. He sees a contrast between what he looks like physically, and what he is mentally and soul-wise. He’s very little but has a very strong voice. He is very manipulative and can do a lot with just one look in his eyes.

Meantime, Antonio is in the movie The Skin I Live In. It is a thought-provoking drama about a prestigious plastic surgeon who makes some dubious judgment calls in his obsessive quest to avenge the deaths of his wife and daughter. Pedro Almodovar wrote and directed it. Antonio said working with Pedro was difficult because he is extremely precise with what he wants. He’s not interested in an actor with a lot of experience. Working with him is like starting from zero.

Antonio's wife Melanie Griffith is about to star in a Lifetime series. The show is called American Housewife, which was Antonio’s idea. She will play a mom who has conversations with her inner voice while dealing with one child heading to college and one staying behind.

REMAKE NEWS:
KEVIN BACON LIKES ‘FOOTLOOSE’

Kevin Bacon wasn't planning to see the remake of the 1984 classic, Footloose (which he originally starred in), but apparently he did. He tweeted to the cast: “U guys rocked it!"  His wife Kyra Sedgwick had said earlier that the remake was "not on our list" of movies to see. Earlier that week, Bacon had tweeted some not-so-nice things about the way the new film was being marketed. Though Bacon later went back and deleted the tweet, E! reports that Bacon wrote: "Just saw a TV ad for FLoose. Marketing a remake by putting down the orig? A bit lame dont ya think?"

Kevin had been asked to be a part of the movie, but declined so as not to draw attention away from the narrative with a cameo. Footloose has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics. Star Kenny Wormald is making a name for himself these days. He says he looks to the classics for inspiration. The first movie he danced in was You Got Served. He’s always loved dancing movies and grew up tap dancing. He saw the original when he was about eight years old. When he saw the scene of the dancing in the warehouse he said: “I want to do that!” 20 years later, he actually did.

YOUNG ACTING SENSATION:
ELIZABETH OLSON

Elizabeth Olsen, the third Olsen sister, stars in Martha Marcy May Marlene. The movie is a tortured tale of a very damaged young woman trying desperately to put her life together again and to re-assimilate into conventional society after escaping life in a cult compound. She is haunted by the traumatic events suffered under the control of a seductively twisted leader. Elizabeth concentrated what was on the script as far as character research was concerned. She spoke to director/writer Sean Durkin whenever she had questions. She didn’t want to speak to others who had gone through the same thing because she felt it would take away from the character that Sean imagined. She wanted to stay true to his vision.

Olsen is truly poised for success with this role. The movie has powerful performances by a cast that includes Academy Award-nominee John Hawkes who brings a quiet menace. The trend each year is to find one young female actress who stands out. This year I say it's Elizabeth Olsen.

ANIMATION SEQUEL TREND:
‘PUSS IN BOOTS’

Antonio Banderas now stars in Puss In Boots, the spin off from Shrek. The movie is the back-story of the Latin lover and swashbuckling adventurer. From Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation, Puss in Boots introduces a new set of characters including Puss’ female counterpart Kitty Softpaws (voiced by Salma Hayek), the scheming Humpty Dumpty (voiced by Zach Galifianakis), and the mean outlaw couple Jack and Jill, (voiced by Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris.) Chris Miller, who made his feature directing debut with Shrek the Third, directs Puss’ 3D.

He referenced Zorro for the character as well as Indiana Jones and James Bond. Miller credits his voice star Banderas, as “completely the fuel for the character. I couldn’t imagine anyone else doing that voice. And no one understands that cat better than Antonio. I’d taken a pass at the screenplay in early 2008, and right before I started I talked to Antonio about what he wanted with the character. And the first thing he said was: Whatever you do, you just have to punch a huge hole in his heart, give him something he’s lost that he has to regain. That was Antonio’s main suggestion, and it’s really what the story is about. It’s about this guy who was on the right path in life and something terrible happens that sends him off into the world as a fugitive. In Puss in Boots, he’s trying to clear his name and right the sins of his past. I give a lot of that credit to Antonio.”

GEORGE CLOONEY:
DIRECTORS REPORT CARD

George Clooney directed The Ides of March, the political thriller I’ve been speaking so much about. All of his colleagues were impressed by his directing skills on this one. He's getting better and better as a director each time out. His co-star, Ryan Gosling says it’s hard to find anyone who is more informed, educated and experienced than George is as both an actor and a director. Ryan does say the reason he is so good is because he has an acting background and he knows first hand what kind of environment to make on set to make everybody comfortable and happy.

Marisa Tomei says George was in complete control of the set, but did it in such a way that he was guiding his actors, not reprimanding. Working in a movie as a director and working as an actor are two completely different ways of thinking – we hear George switches from one to the other really well. George feels that Ryan is one of the most talented actors of his generation. Meantime, George denies that Ides of March came from the John Edwards campaign. He said the movie was written long before the John Edwards thing broke and it wasn’t really modeled after anybody.

HOLLYWOOD TREND:
ON BROADWAY IN DROVES

Hollywood actors are moving to the Broadway stage more than ever before. Today, a celebrity can be an economic necessity for a Broadway show, because if Hollywood stars didn't come many of these shows wouldn’t even be produced in the first place. Broadway still garners big money for Hollywood stars.

Brooke Shields just extended to do the Adams Family until December. Now Hugh Jackman will be in a show called Back on Broadway. It starts October 25th. He will perform musical numbers with an 18-piece orchestra until January 1. This one is going to be his favorite musical numbers that reflect his life and his career. He did the show in Toronto and San Francisco and they sold out.

Meantime in theaters, Real Steel, is a sci-fi film set in the near future. He plays a washed up boxer in the film that's a mix of The Champ, Iron Man and Transformers.

He made a pact with himself that he would only get into Broadway if it was a show he was excited to go to work for. He said on a week off, he would rather work on the Broadway show than golf with his buddies.

Daniel Craig is another Hollywood actor who has shown interest in working on stage in a play. He’s reading scripts at the moment. He likes the experience of theater because it’s more real. He said as an actor it gives you great humility because you have to go out there, stand in front of an audience and get it right – there are no second takes.

CELEBRITY TREND:
ONLINE SALES

Here in Hollywood, celebrities have their online sales going full steam ahead for all the products they hawk. Experts now say the thing that makes online shopping so effortless, often leads you to spend more than you meant to. To buy a shirt in a store, you have time to think about the purchase as you walk around and try on etc. Online, it's one click. On top of that, studies show that paying for a purchase with a credit card, as opposed to hard cash causes consumers to spend 20-40% more, because they're distanced from what they're spending. It’s even easier when your credit cards are saved in a site’s system. A recent study found that back-to-school shoppers who bought online spent 40% more than if they were pushing a cart.

DANIEL CRAIG:
CHANGING LOOK OF BOND

When it comes to setting trends, the James Bond franchise remains a leader. Now Daniel Craig is promising a new look when Bond resurfaces.  Dream House is Daniel’s newest film in theaters right now. It's a horror movie. It must be pretty horrible since no one wants to talk about it. There have been no advance screenings and no interviews from the stars. It doesn’t promise much for the film’s future. It's a suspense thriller about a family that moves into a house that holds dark mysteries within its walls, grisly murders committed years earlier. The house is not happy with its new occupants.

It’s directed by Jim Sheridan (from In the Name of the Father) and it co-stars Daniel’s new wife Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts. Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes say they want Bond 23 to be the best Bond ever. He says they need to go back to all the books and movies and improve upon it. Sam has been a huge Bond fan his whole life.

When he first played in a Bond movie, Daniel was so excited about the slick suits he got to wear. Now he can’t wait to take them off and finds them uncomfortable.

LIFESTYLE TREND:
SCIENTOLOGYS NEW SUPER HOME

The Church of Scientology is building something called The Super Power Building. It’s a $90 million training facility and it’s state-of-the-art. It’s an 889-room development in Clearwater, Florida. It will have amenities such as state-of-the-art training equipment, similar to those astronauts train with, an anti-gravity simulator, audit rooms, a bookstore, a library, 42 bathrooms, a 1,140-seat dining room and two kitchens.

The idea was originally conceived by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard and it’s to enhance the followers’ senses and capabilities with many rigorous training tasks. Scientologists subscribe to the belief there are an additional 57 sense-like attributes known as perceptics that can be honed and developed by practitioners.

Hubbard once wrote that the upside to creating a facility such as The Super Power Building would be to put "Scientologists into a new realm of ability enabling them to create the new world ... it puts world clearing within reach in the future.”

Celebrities such as Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Kristie Alley have helped to get this place built. Kirstie reportedly contributed $250,000 out of her own money.

MOVIE TREND:
A-LISTERS IN SECONDARY ROLES

Have you seen the new action thriller Killer Elite yet? It’s Gary McKendry’s latest starring Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert De Niro. It’s got a good style, lots of action, car chasing and guns – but the story is so all over the place that it’s exhausting to watch. I was craving to be more at the edge of my seat and it definitely needed more De Niro.

Now here’s the trend we are seeing: major actors playing secondary characters. That’s what Robert De Niro does in this one – he’s not the lead. He was in Bradley Cooper’s Limitless and now he’s in Clive Owen and Jason Statham’s espionage thriller.

I say he gives these movies weight that they wouldn't necessarily have. When you see De Niro is in a movie- you say: “Oh it’s got to be good. If he took the role it must be a good film.”

Jason loved working with Robert as well as Clive Owen. He said doing an action scene with Clive was a big privilege because of the intensity that comes with it.  Clive did all his own stunts in this one. A lot of preparation was required. He said he likes doing them because he sees it as the same as a dialogue scene – it’s still acting. It’s got to be right, and he doesn’t want anyone else doing it for him – that’s why he does them all himself.

SIGOURNEY WEAVER:
CAREER STILL HOT

Abduction is the action thriller co-staring Sigourney Weaver from director John Singleton, starring Taylor Lautner, Alfred Molina and Lily Collins (Phil Collins’ daughter.) Sigourney is truly a trendsetter. She's still in the business and getting big roles (all without plastic surgery.) No matter what she does in a movie, she makes each scene that much more interesting, and seem more intelligent.

Her film career spans every genre. She has starred in three of the most successful sci-fi series Avatar, Aliens, and Ghostbusters. She has Oscar nominations for Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl. In Abduction, Sigourney plays Dr. Geraldine Bennett, a therapist/CIA operative.

She says she now likes playing smaller roles, where her characters’ actions help set the plot in motion. She admits it’s been a great year. She knows how lucky she is in this business today. She feels she’s gotten to a point she’s not only offered good parts, but hard parts as well.

SEAN PENN:
HAITI CHARITY RECEIVES $2.25 MILLION

Sean Penn’s charity, J/P Haitian Relief Organization, received a $2.25 million grant. Money will be used to house more than 500 families displaced by last year's earthquake and to build solar-powered water kiosks. The donation was made by officials at the World Bank. Sean co-founded the relief foundation.

This donation comes after an over $1 million injection of funds back in May, thanks to some help from Leonardo DiCaprio. The cash is part of a $95 million effort financed by the organization and the Haiti Reconstruction Fund to get some 500,000 people back into redeveloped neighborhoods.

Sean says : ”We believe this grant marks an important step in the rebuilding of Haiti. Together, we will persist until the hundreds of thousands still displaced are safely home.”

TRENDSETTING ACTOR:
RYAN GOSLING

Drive, in theaters now, starring Ryan Gosling is about a Hollywood stunt driver who makes the mistake of agreeing to drive a getaway car for an ex-con and then has to run for his life. Ryan has become a trendsetting actor and has been pumping out movie after movie. Hollywood watches his every move now. He was voted the sexiest man alive this year by People magazine. Ryan feels he’s not just another pretty face. In fact, he doesn’t feel like he's a face at all. He said: “I’m not that good looking. I’m a pretty weird-looking guy.” He thinks it’s the magic of movies – that if you play a character who is the romantic lead, it casts a spell and people believe that about you. Ryan says he’s in a good place in his career – where he has the luxury of being selective with his projects.

TRENDSETTING ACTOR:
MICHAEL FASSBENDER

There’s an actor whose name you have got to know about. He is the new Daniel Day Lewis. His name is Michael Fassbender. Simon Cowell is back with the X Factor, one of the most anticipated shows of the fall season. Will Simon be the same Simon we know from American Idol, or will we be seeing a different side of him this time around?  Richard Rushfield covers American Idol for the LA Times. HTR sat down with him in Los Angeles and talked about the real Simon. He said in real life he’s more of a nitpicker, focused, and detail oriented. He works very long, strange hours – he works in the middle of the night. He has a very harsh side but he’s also very gracious.

Will he be the same with these kids as he was on American Idol? Rushfield revealed to us that he would go and speak to the kids that he shut down the most on the show and be extremely nice. The contestants never leave with bad feelings towards him. He’s got a good heart.

Each judge is assigned one of four categories: girls between 12 and 25, boys between 12 and 25, individuals over 25, or groups (some of which may be formed from rejected soloists after the audition process.) Through the live shows, the judges act as mentors to their category, helping to decide song choices, styling and staging.

IN CONVERSATION:
HOLLYWOOD’S NEW ‘IT’ GIRL - JESSICA CHASTAIN

One of the hot trendsetting actresses this year at the festival and making such a name for herself in this town is Jessica Chastain. She is the “it” actress of the moment. She's in so many movies: The Help and The Debt in theaters right now. She’s also in this year’s Tree of Life with Brad Pitt and Cornelius shown at the film festival.

Jessica says over-employment is a wonderful problem to have. She recognizes that there are so many actors that are not working and in just the last four years she’s made 11 films.

One of first films was with Al Pacino. He said that when acting on film, you have to think the thoughts of the character and it has to absolutely be real. She took his advice to heart – and the results show.

In the thriller The Debt Jessica plays Helen Mirren’s character at a younger age. Jessica was always a huge fan of Helen. She describes Helen as iconic and considers her a goddess.

IN CONVERSATION:
GWYNETH PALTROW

Gwyneth Paltrow is one of those celebrities that sets trends every time she comes on stage. She sang on Glee, sings in movies, and she now has a cooking show along with a cookbook. On top of all that, she’s a mom and a wife.

When choosing projects, she makes sure she puts herself in the hands of people she thinks are really good or a place where she feels she could learn something. She feels her time out of her house, away from her kids, is no joke. She wants to know if she’s not at home putting her kids to bed, that’s it for good reason.

She’s in the new medical thriller Contagion. The story speculates on the consequences of an unknown airborne virus that decimates much of the world’s population. It’s too real to be considered science-fiction.

It is a period piece set in the world of horse racing. Luck, premiering in January, will take the Sunday time slot Big Love had. It's directed by the great Michael Mann.

KRISTEN STEWART:
‘SNOW WHITE’

Snow White is coming to the big screen but this one isn’t so innocent. It will star Kristen Stewart of Twilight. She’s happy to bring Snow White to life. It is currently shooting in the U.K. Snow White and the Huntsman is the first of two projects based on the popular fairy tale involving a beautiful princess, an evil queen, a charming prince and a cottage full of dwarfs. It's a less traditional telling of the story.

She said the role was not something she was originally jumping at, but she says the character has the amazing ability to channel fear into a focused, charged, driving energy. She doesn’t let her heart cloud her mind, and doesn’t let her mind get in the way of doing things she feels strongly about. She also loved that she could use a sword for the role. Charlize Theron also plays in the film. In the short period where she first met Kirsten she knew automatically she was going to be giving her a run for her money.

LADY GAGA’S NEXT ENDEAVOR:
PHOTO BOOK

Lady Gaga the book is next. It was to be expected. It will be the muse for controversial photographer Terry Richardson. Hopefully we will see shots of her sans glitz too. The book will be a photo book with an estimated 350 new and previously unseen images. Gaga will write for its forward.

NEIL PATRICK HARRIS:
TALK SHOW HOST?

A hot actor setting trends in Hollywood with their overall talent is Neil Patrick Harris who stars in How I Met Your Mother and the new Smurfs but now he might be getting his own talk show. He’s as hot as they come right now. Oprah is looking at him for a show on OWN. Previously, the low ratings of Oprah’s network, which were sometimes as low as 0.1, which is drastically below what the 0.3 rating that network executives promised to advertisers, Harris was actually the one who approached Oprah with the idea. A source said "after their initial conversation, Oprah was intrigued enough to set up two follow-up brainstorming meetings on Skype with Neil. Oprah is mentoring Neil while also trying to bolster her own brand. She realizes Neil's mass appeal to TV audiences as well as his unique perspective as a gay parent juggling home life and a high profile career in Hollywood. Oprah needs a shot of adrenaline in the OWN network and a hot daytime show could just be the ticket."

You're not going to find too many people who'd be against giving Harris his own show, simply because he's delightful and likable and has an extraordinary personality. It's not necessarily fair that the network's fate would rest on his shoulders he got a show on OWN, but he did manage to give the TONYs a 9% nudge in ratings (which it needed).

Harris says he’s in a wonderful place. He says offered many projects and chooses what he does based on what feels fun to him as opposed to a hyper calculation of how things are supposed to go in the future. He found that to be the biggest trap in the industry. He sees others working on something and not enjoying it because they’re too busy thinking about their next move. He’s done things like hosting the TONYs and has been a guest judge on So You Think You Could Dance.

Meantime, Oprah has expressed that it might have been a smarter decision to wait until her talk show had ended before launching her own channel. She has stated, "I've thought maybe it would have been better to wait until this completely ended and then literally use [Oprah] as a
launch pad. If I had to do it differently and had thought of that option, I might have considered that a priority. But I don't spend a lot of time in regret mode."

‘THE SMURFS’:
STARS KATY PERRY & NEIL PATRICK HARRIS

Katy Perry is coming to the big screen in the new Smurfs movie. Isn’t that such a perfect fit? In an effort to reboot the popular 1980s cartoon franchise, the upcoming live-action/CGI 3D feature film The Smurfs reunites all the familiar characters from the series while introducing some new human helpers.

Katy Perry on playing a smurfette. She says when she’s doing the voice, it’s really interesting because she gets to be a part of creating her character and adding little nuances to who she is on the big screen. She describes it as being her voice with rocks thrown in it.

Meantime, Neil Patrick Harris also stars in The Smurfs. He plays a human. It is the first 3D movie he has ever done. It’s a different experience because contrary to what most would think there is no green screen used. The technology was advanced enough that it would recognize where he was. His job was really to know which color dot is which smurf at what time.

CELEB STUFF:
STEVEN TYLER AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Idol judge Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler is definitely a trendsetter. He has just written an autobiography: Does The Noise in My Head Bother You?: A Rock 'n' Roll Memoir.  It’s good, not amazing, but it's a fun read. Millions are reading it, but Steve’s daughter Liv Tyler is not one of them. She says she’s not ready just yet. Her mother has one too. She says as a human she would want to know more about her parents, how they see things, and the things they went through, but as a daughter, she thinks ignorance is bliss. She describes reading a book like that about your parents as a complicated experience.

IN CONVERSATION:
TOM HANKS & JULIA ROBERTS

The newest trend in movie genres is inspirational movies. The latest is Larry Crowne staring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Having co-written and directed the movie, Tom says he wants to spread optimism with this one. For Hanks, the movie was two old friends getting together again. So we wanted to know, how did Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks become such good friends in real life? They’ve known each other ten years. They don’t remember the first time they met, but they do know when they started becoming friends: when they did a photoshoot for Premiere Magazine. They hit it off and laughed a lot and have been friends ever since.

MUSIC NEWS:
KATY PERRY’S ‘SORTA’ DIVA DEMANDS

So what does Katy Perry’s tour rider say? She needs quite a bit!

When she is staying overnight, she's to be booked into the presidential suite of a five-star hotel along with five junior suites and 45 single rooms.

Her dressing room at the venue needs to be able to accommodate six to 10 visitors. It is to be decorated in pink and cream, have lots of fresh flowers but there is one thing that is clear - there must be 'ABSOLUTELY NO CARNATIONS'.

The only alcohol requested is two bottles of Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio. She also wants organic fruits and vegetables on hand, ‘properly sanitized.’

There is a whole page devoted to his do’s and don’ts, including not starting a conversation with Perry or staring at her through the rear view mirror.

What's caused the most commotion about the rider, with people in the music industry who have seen it, is that Perry's peeps reserve the right to have the venue hold back some of the tickets for them to move through ‘resellers’.

Katy underwent a strict diet and training regimen to get in shape for her world tour, is serious about eating well. She demands that high-protein pretzels, baked potato chips, whole wheat pita bread and hummus be in her dressing room at concert venue.

Perry, who's currently on the Japan leg of her 95-city California Dreams world tour, also requires organic fruit (apples, bananas, oranges and grapes) as well as fresh-cut crudites, including cucumber, broccoli, carrots, snap peas and celery accompanied by ranch dip.

The 5'5" Katy, who weighs 130 pounds now after her 145, eats five small meals a day and does circuit-training workouts that incorporate cardio exercise, ab work and upper and lower body strength training.

ARNOLD:
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED? THE COVERUP, THE STRESS, HOW HE KEPT HIS SECRETS

Right now, former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s inner circle is worried about him. They say the stress may take a toll on his health and it should be. Listen to the manipulation, what a web this guy cast...

His reputation has plummeted in one week. Maria, who must be in a state of shock, has hired high powered divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser

Remember, Arnold had an aortic valve replacement on his heart in 1997 and Arnold's friends have begged him for years to quit smoking cigars, but he won’t. Arnold is very stubborn and very shrewd. I felt that the first time I sat down with him in an interview. He kept trying to direct my interview. I politely always brought it back but I remember always thinking - wow, this guy gets what he wants and he won't take no for an answer. How little did I know how these words would come back into my mind now.

Today, he is "way on the outside of the circle" and "rambling around" their huge house with none of his family around, said the source, who asked not to be identified.

According to the Huffington Post:
The one person who's done more than anyone else to shield Schwarzenegger from negative publicity is Marty "Mad Dog" Singer - an attorney to the stars, a pit bull who's amassed a fortune by going after publications that print -- or consider printing -- unflattering things about his clients.
His Century City firm, Lavely & Singer, counts among its roster of past and present clients: Britney Spears, Bruce Willis, Celine Dion, Jim Carey, Sylvester Stallone and Eddie Murphy.

According to the Huffington Post, when Charlie Sheen went on his verbal rampage, Singer wrote a five-page letter threatening Warner Brothers and CBS with legal action on Sheen's behalf.

In a 2004 Los Angeles Magazine article, David Perel, the editor of the National Enquirer, said, "I get so many letters from Marty, he's my pen pal.”

In 2001, when Schwarzenegger was first talking about the possibility of running for governor, John Connolly, a journalist and former New York policeman wrote a piece for Premiere Magazine where he depicted Schwarzenegger as a womanizing boor who couldn't keep his hands to himself.
The Post goes onto say that Singer was not the only Hollywood pit bull in Schwarzenegger's camp. In 2001, while Schwarzenegger was making his first foray into politics, there were three public relations people on his staff, among them Sheryl Main, an entertainment publicist known for her loyalty and toughness.

Along with Main and the rest of the publicity team, Schwarzenegger's entourage also included a pair of tough-guy bodybuilder types who acted as his bodyguards and confidants (and played chess with him)

John Connolly, the journalist who wrote the Premiere article, said Schwarzenegger also enlisted the services of Anthony Pellicano, the Hollywood private investigator who was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2008 for an array of charges that included illegal wiretapping and racketeering.

Connolly, who is writing a book about Pellicano, said Schwarzenegger and Pellicano would meet at Caffé Roma in Beverly Hills, one of Schwarzenegger's favorite hangouts. Citing four unnamed sources, Connolly said Schwarzenegger hired Pellicano to "shut up" the women who could potentially destroy his political hopes. He also said that Schwarzenegger retained Paul Barresi, a former porn star turned private investigator and longtime Pellicano associate who'd reportedly worked with Singer.

In the 2004 Los Angeles Magazine article, Singer said he'd worked with Pellicano on "maybe a half-dozen cases." He denied that he'd ever used Pellicano to protect someone from a media takedown.

In a 2008 interview with the media blog Fishbowl, Barresi said he'd been tasked with digging up information about Schwarzenegger's detractors -– "anyone who may want to harm him, should he run for office." Asked if he'd compiled a list, Barresi answered, "A mile long."
Despite all the effort that went into stamping out the sparks of rumor and innuendo that flew around Schwarzenegger, the National Enquirer published a series of articles in 2001 detailing an alleged affair with the actress Gigi Goyette that claimed he was on the verge of splitting up with Shriver because of his philandering.

The Enquirer and the two other papers that made up the tabloid wing of the company American Media, Inc. -- Star and The Globe -– were foes. Even Singer could not stop the tabloids.

But all that changed in 2003, when AMI set out to buy a muscle-magazine company owned by a close friend of Schwarzenegger's. David Pecker, the head of AMI, needed Schwarzenegger's cooperation on the deal, according to the Los Angeles Magazine article, so he met with him at his Santa Monica production office and later signed him to a lucrative contract as executive editor of two of the muscle magazines, Muscle & Fitness and Flex.
Three weeks after that Santa Monica meeting, Schwarzenegger announced that he was running for governor. Throughout the campaign, the tabloids' coverage of Schwarzenegger was muted.

Ebner, the "Hollywood, Interrupted" co-author, who worked as a reporter for the AMI tabloids in 2006, said there was a mandate in the newsroom that had been whispered down the company's chain of command:

"You don't touch Schwarzenegger."

BIG CELEB TREND:
ACTOR-DIRECTORS

Now turning to that ever-popular trend of actors wanting to direct. Ryan Philippe just said he hates the paparazzi much he may step behind the camera. Kate Hudson wants to direct as well while still acting. Her latest romantic comedy is called 'Something Borrowed' out in theaters everywhere. She thinks later in life she’ll end up directing. She can’t see herself sitting in a makeup chair for two hours much longer. She’s always been in the film business, and she’s had the opportunity to watch so many great directors, whether it be from her parents’ or her roles. She thinks the greatest lessons you could learn are by watching.

Kate is pregnant but says she’s still on board to star in biopic Lovelace after the birth of her baby. It’s the story of the porn-star turned activist Linda Lovelace. It is currently in pre production. It is one of two movies depicting the life of Linda Lovelace. Also being produced right now is Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story starring Watchmen’s Malin Akerman. The lead role was originally Lindsay Lohan’s but she was forced to drop out because of legal troubles. Malin couldn’t be happier about Kate’s pregnancy; because it means her film will likely be finished first thus have an edge over Kate’s.

Mark Ruffalo is also turning to directing. He’s done Sympathy For Delicious as his directorial debut. It is an offbeat, edgy story of faith, faith-healing and ultimate redemption. It tells the unusual story of a paraplegic who discovers that he has the otherworldly power to heal. On his first day on set he went to his trailer, locked the door, and had a panic attack; he started doubting himself. However, he said the second he said action, it felt really natural to him. He attributes it to all the great directors he’s had the opportunity to work with.

ACTOR TURNED SINGER:

IN CONVERSATION:
MEL GIBSON

Mel Gibson plays a man struggling with dark moods in his latest movie. He says he able to empathize with his character because he has struggled with depression himself. He's convinced learning to understand the disorder helped him battle his own demons.

He says "Depression is like that. It's somewhere one can be caught. You can get stuck there. It is an illness. It is a disease. And, I think there is a better understanding of it."He goes onto say, "A guy said to me one time, something really profound, and it's so simple. It's that depression lies. It's a liar and you have to shut it down. There is nothing that alleviates it more than going out and doing something for someone else. It's almost like instant healing. Get away from yourself. People can't even get out of bed and it gets really severe. I've never been at that stage. Everyone goes through low and high and low and high and some people are blessed to be created on an even keel all the way through - but not me."

LIFESTYLE TREND:
'FLEXI-SEXUALITY'

A new lifestyle trend that’s really taking hold, especially in Hollywood is something called: flexi-sexuality. What is it? Girls in Hollywood aren't labeling themselves anymore as gay, straight, or bisexual. They are flexible with their sexualities hence “flexi”-sexual.

Katy Perry sang about it in her song I Kissed a Girl and Lady Gaga’s Poker Face is about wanting to be with a woman. Megan Fox, Drew Barrymore and Angelina Jolie have spoken publicly about their attraction to both men and women.

Flexi-sexuals don’t want to play by the rules. It’s about doing what you want without being labeled. So what's the difference between a bisexual and a flexi-sexual ? A flexi-sexual will try to attract both sexes, but refuses to identify as bisexual. They will constantly alter which gender they are more attracted to.

No wish is too much in this town.Jake Gyllenhaal, Minnie Driver, John Legend, Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan have all brought their dogs to LA Dogworks. They all go because the celebrities know they will respond to their every request with no question. REALITY STARS TURN TO MOVIES

Reality stars are now turning into movie stars. Carrie Underwood stars in Soul Surfer about the vicious shark attack left a girl without an arm. It is a movie that is Christian based. She says the “faith” aspect of the movie is more than just an undertone. She says the reason the character got through everything is because of her faith in God. She says it’s so easy to have faith when things are going great, but the story teaches an important lesson to have faith even when things are down. This is Carrie’s first movie. She says acting is completely different than anything she’s ever done. She said everyone on the set helped her along the whole way through. They were all patient and understood she had never been in a movie before.

Another reality star turned movie star is Julianne Hough. The news doesn't quit with this singer/dancer/actress. In Las Vegas in early April at the Cinema Con Convention, Julianne Hough was handed the Female Rising Star Award. She barely had time to catch her breath before beginning rehearsals for the Academy Of Country Music Awards where she was a presenter. As we have been telling you, Ryan Seacrest's girlfriend is definitely an it girl right now.

After Footloose, she says she’s actually starstuck on the thought of taking on the big musical Rock of All Ages for the big screen. She describes co-star Tom Cruise as being one of the most welcoming people she’s ever met. She’s knows he’s a really hard worker and loves the adrenaline of having to keep up with somebody.

TV doctors’ wives are cashing in on their husbands’ fame. Dr. Phil’s wife Robin McGraw did it with her best selling books Inside my Heart: Choosing to Live with Passion and Purpose and What’s Age Got To Do With It?

Now Dr. Oz’s wife, LisaOz, has done the same with five best-selling health books under her belt and her most recent relationship book US: Transforming Ourselves and the Relationships that Matter Most

CELEBRITY TREND:
WHAT'S A 'DELEB'

Stars that have passed away are now called “delebs.” It’s a huge industry – $800 million dollars a year and growing. Not only do some big celebs become more valuable after they die, people start liking them more. People are more likely to look at their talents and the good they did in their life rather than the bad. For Elizabeth Taylor there are many perfume and cosmetic licensing and endorsement deals. Now, her image and name, will be worth more than before. Taylor had a very stable group of representatives that were very loyal to her – and they'll be maintaining her affairs now.

Taylor was very involved in fundraising for AIDS research . People initially thought Taylor was so committed to the cause because of the death of her friend Rock Hudson, but she says it started much before that.

She also helped pushed the boundaries of the Production Code - strict guidelines that dictated the content of movies. A movie that allowed her to do this: Who is Afraid of Virginia Woolf? It was adapted from Edward Albee’s Broadway play. It contained gritty language, that the screen-writer producer felt he couldn’t modify without ruining the play. Her sexuality in National Velvet was also opposed by the code. The code wasn’t just about sex – it forbade the showing of interracial couples and demanded worship for religion and government. It may be a bit of a joke today – but then the code it had a tremendous amount of power.

Other controversial roles Taylor played:

A Place in the Sun (1951): about pregnancy out of wedlock with references to abortion
Suddenly, Last Summer (1959): Which contained homosexuality and cannibalism.

Her intense sexuality is what allowed directors to get around the law. The films conveyed a lot more on screen than in writing because of all the nonverbal things Taylor conveyed.

HOLLYWOOD 'IT' BOYS:
THE YOUNG MEN

It is the year of the young male in this town. They're headlining today’s box office hits. Veteran A-lister Sylvester Stallone says when someone has the “it” factor you just know and feel it when you are next to them! You feel the wattage and there’s no denying it. There’s a definite heat that comes off of special people.

Who are the hot new A-listers this month? Bradley Cooper is definitely one of them due to Limitless, The Hangover, The Hangover II and The A-Team. He says he plans to broaden his horizons, even more with comedy and drama, for a real mix of work. He says he wants to learn as many languages as he could and after that, learn as many instruments and he could. His long-term goal is to direct movies.

There’s also Channing Tatum who caught our attention in Step Up and then played the romantic lead in Dear John and Henry Cavil from The Tudors. He is big right now and he will really be noticed in his next starring role in Superman: Man of Steel.

Alex Pettyfer from Beastly, the contemporary Beauty and the Beast, is Hollywood’s new bad boy. He is known in the industry to have lots of attitude and isn’t pleasant to work with. Alex was also in I Am Number Four and will soon be in Now with Olivia Wilde and Amanda Seyfried. Alex says he wants to change up his image from just the good-looking hunk roles.

Then there is Ryan Reynolds who's now an official leading man and Twilight’s Robert Pattinson is also on the list. Robert co-stars next with Reese Witherspoon in Water for Elephants.

Jeremy Renner is a big star now and one of Hollywood’s it boys. He was in Hurt Locker, The Town and next up in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol this year and then Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters in 2012.

Rounding out the list is Chris Pine with his first leading role in Star Trek, then along side with Denzel in Unstoppable.

LARRY KING:
NEW FACE OF THE BROOKLYN WATER BAGEL COMPANY

Yes, he's still going on stage in Vegas June 11 but Larry King is also now the face of the Delray Beach Florida based company The Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. One just opened in LA. The company uses tap water and filters it in a 14-stage process. It re-mineralizes to the exact smell of Brooklyn water without lead and fluoride.

The company says – “Larry is the most recognized face from Brooklyn and we're the taste of Brooklyn."

March 17, 2011 was the grand-opening event of the West Coast’s first Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. store.

King and the company’s founder, Steve Fassberg, met media during an all-day opening and evening gala that celebrated King’s first Southern California Original Brooklyn Water Bagel location.

“This is me,” King says. “A regular guy, not a limo guy. I’m a bagel-with-cream-cheese-and-lox guy, and this is a good marriage. It’s right up my alley.”

King also says he likes that Original Brooklyn Water Bagel, and says the quick-serve industry is more of a “people business” because he enjoys being around people and getting to know them.

King says that when he was approached, he was drawn to the Brooklyn connection and the “delicious and familiar” taste of the bagels that he says are nostalgic of his childhood years growing up in Brooklyn.

He is now the franchisee and national spokesman, and will help expansion into Southern California and promote the company in print, radio, and Internet advertising. He will also eat there three to four mornings a week in the official “Larry King booth” at the Beverly Hills store reserved especially for King and his guests.

The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. has the technology to “Brooklynize” the water, replicating authentic Brooklyn bagels anywhere in the world. Each store has its own water treatment system and uses only the water it bottles on the premises for everything from bagels and muffins to coffee, soda, and ice cubes.

Founded in 2009, The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. has plans for expansion King’s franchise begins the West Coast expansion in Beverly Hills, which happens to be the home of many Brooklyn and East Coast natives.

A typical Original Brooklyn Water Bagel unit sells 400–500 dozen bagels in an average day.

“California never had a quality bagel
If things go as planned, many cities up and down the West Coast will be “Brooklynized.”

WEB TREND:
WEBISODES

There is a new trend online: ‘webisodes’

These are five to seven minutes long. Vampires are big in the youth market Billy Crystal was cast by Will Ferrell to play an aging vampire for Farrell’s comedic website Funny or Die. Charlie Sheen did it and so did Ben Stiller. Kiefer Sutherland is the creator and star of The Confession, an action web-series. The ten-episode series was distributed on Hulu. He says he has incorporated everything he’s learned over the last 25 years, from storytelling to acting.

NEW CASTING NEWS:
'THE THREE STOOGES'

Here's the latest with the Farrelly Brothers The Three Stooges, which has remained on hold. They originally cast Benicio Del Toro as Moe, Sean Penn as Larry, and Jim Carrey as Curly back in 2009. As MGM started having financial troubles it halted production, and the Farrelly Brothers began to lose their cast. Jim Carrey was not willing to put on the weight to play Curly. Del Toro was still considered the frontrunner for Moe as of January and Sean Penn's involvement in Haiti made him too busy to play Larry.

Apparently fitting the bill now is Johnny Knoxville. He is the Farrellys’ choice. They're waiting for him to officially accept. Knoxville is clearly a move to a younger demographic, and is reportedly the first step before casting the two other roles. Rumored to be up for the part of Larry are Justin Timberlake, Woody Harrelson and Larry David. Production begins in mid-April and will comprise three 27-minute long shorts

OWEN WILSON:
THE IMPORTANCE OF WARDROBE ON SET

Now turning to a film trend that continues to play a major role in the craft of filmmaking: costumes and wardrobe. More and more stars today say they need to look the part in order to get into character. Jeff Bridges in True Grit became the cowboy with his costume. Angelina Jolie in The Tourist wore elegant femme fatale outfits made her move differently.

Owen Wilson, in Hall Pass (in theaters now, you may have seen) says that his nerdy wardrobe is what really got him to play the role as well as he did. His older brother went to see him on set in Atlanta where they filmed and would make fun of him in his wardrobe. Just putting on the clothes alone made him feel dorky. His wardrobe included pleaded jeans and orthopedic shoes.

CELEBRITY TREND:
RUNNING FOR OFFICE

A big trend in Hollywood is celebrities running for office. Donald Trump is interested in being president, George Clooney fights for Darfur, Alec Baldwin has expressed interest and Ben Affleck was in congress this month trying to help Congo.

Matt Damon is also following the trend. He says he likes politics much more than Politicians. He was one of President Barak Obama's most prominent celebrity supporters during the 2008 election, but has lately expressed disappointment in the president’s performance. He has also spoken out against the war in Iraq, has criticized Sarah Palin and calls former South African President Nelson Mandela the greatest world leader in his time.

MOVIE TREND:
ACTORS DIVERSIFYING THEIR ROLE CHOICES

A big Hollywood trend right now is comedic actors turning to dramatic roles to avoid typecasting. It's almost a must now in acting careers. You have to be able to do both if you're to be taken seriously.
Recent stars to make the switch are Zach Galifinakis, Ryan Reynolds, and Bradley Cooper.

For Brad, his dramatic role in Limitless that opened this weekend is a clear departure from his usual frat-boy comedy roles in Wedding Crashers and The Hangover.
Limitless is his first lead role in a big-budget film so studios will be keeping a close eye on its box-office performance to see if he can open a movie himself. He’s looking to be taken more seriously and has recently agreed to star in another drama, The Word, also about a writer at the peak of his career that discovers the price he must pay for stealing someone else’s work.

He's got the perfect attitude for making it long term when moving to drama. His goal is to work with great filmmakers and great actors and get better as an actor. What that means is that it’s not usually going to be the same kind of movie or the same genre.

Bradley studied at the prestigious Actors Studio Drama School in New York where many Hollywood legends have attended such as Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn and Andy Garcia.

Bradley says comedy and drama are the same acting strategy so it’s not hard for him. He says it may demand different ways in but the structure is essentially the same. You have to be very well prepared either way. His philosophy is “acting is acting.”

Bradley credits his Limitless co-star Robert De Niro as the reason he became an actor! He says he was never intimidated by sharing the camera with his idol - even with De Niro’s preference for rarely rehearsing lines to add spontaneity to the dialogue for realism. In fact, Bradley says, he found it relaxing since the two of them are very soft-spoken.

He’s got an upcoming comedy you might have heard of. The heavily anticipated The Hangover Part II will be in theaters May 26!

ACTING TRENDS:
LATE SUCCESS

Now turning to a trend that is seeing actors and actresses making it big later in life and later in their careers. This is something we never saw before. Silver-haired John Slattery has made it huge on Mad Men as boss Roger Sterling. He was also Carrie Bradshaw’s boyfriend in Sex and the City, Grace's boyfriend on Will & Grace and Eva Longoria's husband on Desperate Housewives. He currently stars in The Adjustment Bureau with Matt Damon.

This season the three time Emmy nominee steps behind the camera to direct an episode of Mad Men. He says it’s not something he has thought of doing for a while. Now that he's older, he says he wants to try it and there was no better show to do it with than Mad Men.

IN CONVERSATION:
KEVIN KLINE

Kevin Kline has got it going on. He has won an Academy Award and two Tony Awards, and has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards, two BAFTA Awards and an Emmy Award. His latest movie was No Strings Attached with Ashton Kutcher. He has been so good at comedy and re-teamed with Canadian director Ivan Reitman for this one.

Kevin says Ivan is a pleasure to work with. He says Ivan loves actors. He loves when the actors play and invent things but he also wants things a certain way. When he gets what he wants, he lets the actors have fun and improvise. Kevin says the key to comedy is keeping it real. No matter how preposterous or absurd the premise is, make it as real as possible. That is the challenge: making it real, and still funny.

Kevin truly is one of the most respected, versatile and I say often overlooked actors out there today.

CELEBRITY NEWS:
POWER THEY WEILD

Sadly, celebs are modern day religious icons. They are familiar and are seen as successful so many want to emulate them.

According to a recent poll, the most trust-worthy celebrities are:

1.Michael J. Fox
2.Morgan Freeman
3.Betty White
4.James Earl Jones
5.Ron Howard
6.Sandra Bullock
7.Will Smith
8.Denzel Washington
9.Tom Hanks

The problem is, we only know their on-screen persona and you assume they are the same off-screen. Often it’s designed that way. With the popularity of TMZ and tabloids, viewers are fooled in believing they know celebrities because they catch glimpses of their "private" lives. Psychologists say, this premise is based on nothing more than illusion, the illusion of connection and intimacy.

CELEBRITY TREND:
HOLLYWOOD ASSISTANTS TELL ALL

Hollywood celebrity assistants, if you haven't heard, often spill the beans by writing tell-all books. They have to sign confidentially agreements but they still squeal when things don't go their way with their employer. For example, Kourtney Kardashian makes her assistant ride in the trunk of her Range Rover when the car is full. She also believes in a lot of old wives tales, like if you walk over a baby, it won’t grow, so she freaks out when Mason is on the floor. She also sends her assistants to buy sex toys. Britney Spears talks in a baby voice all the time and throws lots of temper tantrums. Mariah Carey lies on the couch, and has her assistant feed her pizza or ice cream and Miley Cyrus is a flasher; she thinks it’s hilarious to greet first-time guests at the door and shock them by showing her skin.

CHARLIE SHEEN:
WHY WE KEEP WATCHNG

So everyone keeps talking – Charlie, the porn stars, the ex wives. Watching celebs fail or melt down offers thrill. So why do we love to watch train wrecks?

"Charlie Sheen fascinates us because we secretly fantasize about being a celebrity," said John Portmann an associate professor of religious studies at the University of Virginia and author of When Bad Thing Happen to Other People."

"At the same time, we resent him because he stands up on a pedestal, above us. When he fails, we feel justice has been done. He's been brought back in line with the rest of humanity."

Some just want to see a spoiled star to get his just deserts.

Colin Leach a professor of psychology at the University of Conneticut and author of The Social Life of the Emotions, told the New York Daily News that people like watching "tall poppies" being cut down to size, especially if they feel that the success is underserved or if we think they're bad people.

The misfortunes of the rich and famous can give us a social comparison boost as well – they have problems, too, and look: They're crazier than our problems!

"In the case of Charlie Sheen, some people may perceive that he 'deserves' the misfortune," said Richard Smith, a professor of social psychology at the University of Kentucky "Deservingness is a strong predictor of schadenfreude. When people get what they deserve, even if it means their suffering, this can often be quite pleasing, maybe even a kind of poetic justice."

Kacey Jordan, one of Charlie Sheen’s porn stars, was interviewed on Loper & Randi radio show on South Florida’s 103.1 recently. She really spilled the beans and got really graphic about their sex life.

Why are people so interested in the fall of Charlie Sheen? Psychologists suggest it is because we feel – here is someone who see has millions, yet it makes us feel better that WE are not out of touch like he is, even though we don’t have all that money.

Dr. Drew Pinsky, whose new show premieres on HLN on April 4, believes Sheen's issues have moved beyond substance abuse. The problem with him now is he's getting so impaired psychiatrically. He says the psychiatric system is going to step in eventually.

Morningman Jeremy Loper, of the Loper & Randi radio show, covers Hollywood news daily. He says people still like him because they see him as human. He thinks people can be helped by Charlie’s situation. “Substance abuse is something that is not only rampant in Hollywood, but all around the world as well. It gives other addicts hope. They see even someone who makes $2.5 million per episode on a show going to get help, and feel like they could do the same” says Loper.

HALLE BERRY:
"I'M A TERRIBLE AT AUDITIONS"

Halle Berry, hot on the heels of being allowed by the courts to travel with her and Gabriel Aubry’s daughter Nahla, says she’s bad when it comes to auditions. Obviously now she doesn’t have to audition for movies like she used to. She said if she had to audition for any of the jobs she had now she wouldn’t get them. She can’t grasp the task of cold reading in a room with just a scene from a movie not having the time to do the work. She attributes the fact that she ever got a job to “sucking less than others.”

IN CONVERSATION:
LIAM NEESON

Liam Neeson’s career has skyrocketed since the death of his actress wifeNatasha Richardson. In theaters this weekend, Liam's in the movie Unknown, an intense action adventure about a doctor who awakens after a car accident to find that no one knows who he is and someone else has taken his identity. He's then forced into a deadly mystery. He says a childhood discipline is called into play for action movies.

He says his childhood discipline is to blame for his good physical shape. He started boxing when he was nine-years-old. He says the discipline of going to a gym regularly gives you a respect for hard work. He says the same physical discipline when it comes to filming movies – getting up very early in the morning and working long hours.

GRAMMY MUSEUM:
MICHAEL AND ELVIS ON DISPLAY

The King of Pop and the King of Rock and Roll are on display in Los Angeles at the GRAMMY Museum. It features many exhibits showcasing historic musical artifacts, behind-the-scenes footage of GRAMMY live performances, and interactive touch-screen sensitive booths. The GRAMMY museum has become a Smithsonian museum of sorts to honor the music world.

It has become the place where Michael Jackson’s memory and his legacy continues to live with a display dedicated solely to him. Visitors walking in are demanding it. In June of this year, for the anniversary of his passing, they will have a brand new exhibit for him.

There is the legacy of Elvis Presley, which Bob says must be preserved. He says too many young people look at him as a character – as just someone who wore funny jump suits and sang fluffy songs. He wants to show him as one of the early pioneers of Rock and Roll and a major influencer in American pop culture.

By the way, the saying “Elvis has left the building” came about because of an announcement often heard on the public address system after an Elvis Presley concert to disperse crowds lingering for an encore. Bet you didn’t know that!

CELEBRITY TREND:
ACTORS PLAYING REAL-LIFE CHARACTERS

There is a huge trend in Hollywood now that has actors playing real life characters. Actors like doing these because often these kinds of role lead to Oscars.

Sasha Baron Cohen is starring in a dramatic turn playing Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury and he will be in another movie playing Saddam Hussein. Colin Firth is going to win the Oscar this year for his role role as King George VI.

John Travolta may be playing mobster John Gotti. Michael Douglas is playing Liberace and Matt Damon as Liberace's lover. Leonardo DiCaprio will play FBI head J. Edgar Hoover.

Hot on the heels of his stand-out performance as one of the Winklevoss twins in the award-winning film The Social Network, actor Armie Hammer has just signed on the dotted line to play Clyde Tolson in that much-anticipated biopic, J. Edgar.

CELEBRITY TREND:
FOURTH CHILD STATUS SYMBOL

A huge trend with Hollywood celebrities is having a fourth child. There is no bigger status symbol today. Think the Beckhams, or the Pitts. The only couples with four or more kids these days aren’t really couples at all – they’re brands. They are the only ones who can afford not to worry about the expenses children bring, or the time investment they require. That is because they have the money (and lots of it) and the staff to help them. The ones with four children have enough money to buy themselves sleep. They have the nannies, the cooks, the drivers and are worry-free about the grocery bills or the school fees. On another note, even though having a lot of kids may look like an advertisement for a great relationship, it might actually mean that at least one of the two are too busy earning bonuses to be around at all.

NATALIE PORTMAN:
ACTRESS TURNED PRODUCER

Natalie Portman is on such a roll as the hottest trendsetting actress right now. She is Hollywood’s girl of the moment poised to win the Oscar in a few weeks. She’s also now set up her own production company and wants to make comedic movies for women like the Hangover. She says women are typically “not allowed” to be “beautiful and funny.” She also believes it’s frowned upon for females to be vulgar.

ROB LOWE:
'STORIES I ONLY TELL MY FRIENDS'

Rob Lowe's is writing his personal memoirs and turning it into a book, which will be released in May. He is personally writing the work, rather than hiring a ghost-writer to do the bulk of the task like so many of his Hollywood friends. He plans to call the book Stories I Only Tell My Friends. It's a mid-career meditation on his four decades as an actor. Lowe says, “When I was young and crazy, I was young and crazy. It can be hard enough just to be in your teens and 20’s. Then add fame, money, access, and every single person telling you that you're the greatest person who ever was, and it can be a recipe for disaster.”

BRYAN ADAMS:
FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER

Bryan Adams is a great photographer with an insightful eye. His celebrity photography could be considered a hidden talent overshadowed by his fame as a singer. Bryan has gained a strong reputation for his photography, particularly for his work in the fashion world, for which he has received awards.. He has had photos published in numerous well-known publications such as L’uomo Vogue, British Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Interview Magazine, and Esquire

Adams can do quite a bit with a camera, capturing fellow stars in compelling compositions. His new book features Lindsay Lohan, Diane Kruger, Renee Zellweger, Naomi Campbell, Michael J. Fox and Ray Liotta.

CELEBRITY FASHION LINES:
VOLATILE SALES

Madonna is known for constantly reinventing herself, but her latest incarnation, fashion designer, might be the riskiest one yet. On June 22 the musician (along with her daughter, Lourdes) debuted sketches of a glam '80s-inspired line of juniors clothing called Material Girl, which will go on sale at Macy's this August. But celebrity fashion lines (like many celebrity recording careers) often have the lifespan of a gnat, no matter how well-promoted or designed.

Celebrity clothing brands are particularly volatile, because their success is closely tied to one person whose popularity can fluctuate violently. "There's a lot of coming and going, because as their popularity wanes it affects everything else," says independent brand consultant Alycia de Mesa. "Sometimes it's a flash in a pan."

Endorsement deals in the health and beauty industry are rarely more than two or three years, says Rick Dunaj, creator of Dunaj Agency LLC, which brokers deals between stars and the fashion industry. Popularity tends to evaporate at that point. "We know the life of being tied to a celebrity," he says, "and it's not long."

Still, some Hollywood-born labels have managed to survive, including Sean "Diddy" Combs' Sean Jean label, launched in 1998, which has annual sales hovering around $500 million. Jessica Simpson's self-titled shoe and accessories line draws $500 million per year in annual sales. The key to success, experts say, is playing to the "celebrity" factor, while letting the brand breathe on its own.

"Certain brands have managed to do well because they've come back and supported the sub brand, not just their name," says Alycia de Mesa. In short, Rocawear may be a brainchild of Jay-Z, but the business can stand alone without him. Rocawear first appeared in 1999, and its average annual sales are around $700 million.

The most successful celebrity lines tend to have lower price points, mass market appeal and are sold at mainstream chains like Kohl's, Target and Macy's. Higher end clothing, sold exclusively in boutiques and shops like Bloomingdale's, tend to make less overall.

Low prices are no guarantee of success though. Sarah Jessica Parker's brand, Bitten, was sold exclusively at casual clothing chain Steve & Barry's, and featured only items priced at less than $20. It didn’t do well.

"You can't say today, in this economy, 'We're going to take the money and develop a private label,'" says Bruce Ross, president and CEO of marketing and branding consultancy Celebrity Fashion Group. “The problem is that they can't take the risk and time to develop something out of nothing."

HOLLYWOOD TREND:
OLD TIMERS ARE HOT

Here’s the latest from some old timers here in Hollywood: Betty White and Ernest Borgnine.

Betty says: "What is this Betty White business? This is so silly. You've had an overdose of me. I think I'm going to go away for a while."Regardless of her fear of overexposure, she says she has a hard time saying no to job offers. "You spend your career thinking if you say no,then they'll never ask you again. I'm trying to cut down.” She’s grateful that she still gets job offers after 40. The 88-year-old knows that when it comes to Hollywood, you can be hot one moment and not the next. She says that she doesn't think young actors today understand that."Don't believe your own publicity," she advises young Hollywood. "Don't abuse your privileges."

Meantime, Ernest Borgnine just starred in Red. He is 93 going on 94, but he’s still got it. He keeps active by exercising and he’s going all the time. By still working, even with tiny parts, he still feels like he’s in with the big guys.

JACK NICHOLSON:
SAYS "TOO OLD TO CHASE GIRLS"

Jack Nicholson said recently he was too old to chase girls. Allegedly he's slept with thousands of women during his career and has five kids with four different partners. The 73-year-old is adamant it's time he stopped cavorting with beauties in public and started behaving like a mature gentleman.

"I can't hit on a girl in public like I used to. I never thought words like 'undignified' would come into my own reflections on myself but I can't do it any more. I feel uncomfortable. I don't think anybody cares what I do in these areas but it feels a little bit off to me."He says "It's good for business if people think I'm a womanizer. But a lot of what people think of me has to do with when I was younger.I did sort of burn it full blast. I can't party as hard as in the past. I just don't have the energy."

CELEBRITY TREND:
PRODUCING PROJECTS

The hot trend for actresses: moving into producing. Eva Longoria is one of the latest to join the bunch. She’s figured out there is a trend with family comedies.

Her production company, Unbelievable Entertainment, is working on three projects. Eva plans to present ABC with two shows. One is a comedy called Parenting by Committee about four single women who are forced to face reality when one finds out she's pregnant. The other she is doing is with Cold Case actress Kathryn Morris, a new drama called Sendera about two wealthy families who are in a constant battle over land, money, and sex. She's also got Aztecs, an eight part historical mini series.

CUSTOM-MADE ITEMS

CELEBRITY TREND:
KEEPING RELATIONSHIPS PRIVATE

Now turning to Gyweneth Paltrow - one celebrity who takes extra measures in order to maintain her privacy, especially when it comes to her relationship with Coldplay rocker husband Chris Martin.

It's hard to keep your relationships private when you’re a Hollywood celebrity. It’s especially harder when both man and woman are stars in their own right.

She’s been great with her relationships and with huge stars Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck.

She now says there is no need for celebrity lovers to parade their partnership in public and she's convinced stars who step out together have an unhealthy interest in self-promotion.

She and Chris are rarely seen out in public and don’t even attend show biz events as a couple.

She says: "It's just unnecessary to be a public couple, to have your couple-dom out there- it doesn't make sense to have that in the public world."

BIG NAMES JOINING FORCES:
GEORGE CLOONEY & LEONARDO DICAPRIO

Now turning to a trend that likely is a result of the recession - big names joining together to create projects.

George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio are teaming up as producers
.
George will be directing and starring in The Ides of March, an adaptation of the 2008 Broadway play Farragut North.
The cast also includes Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.

Leonardo's Appian Way Productions is also on board.

Shooting begins in February in Michigan and Ohio.

The film follows a young press spokesman who gets involved in backroom politics and is manipulated by veteran political operatives.

Clooney plays a presidential candidate running for the Democratic. Gosling plays the press spokesman. Giamatti is the rival campaign manager. Tomei is the reporter for The New York Times and Wood is the intern.(What’s a political movie without an intern?)

CELEBRITY REHAB:
PROMISES IN MALIBU - WHERE THE CELEBS GO

Now turning to celebrity rehab and one of the hot trends these days when it comes to a diagnosis - sex addiction.

Dr. David Sack of Promises Addiction Treatment Center in Malibu says celebrities are in and out. When celebrities decide to undergo treatment, it is often a difficult decision to make and the media chasing them down makes the process that much harder.

Dr. Sack says the decision for whether a celebrity should or shouldn’t go public about their treatment is highly individual. For some celebrities it is less intrusive to make an announcement because it decreases the frenzy that goes on when people start to speculate about where they are.

After the recent sex scandal with golf superstar Tiger Woods, there was speculation that he was suffering sex addiction. Does such a condition really exist? Or is it merely an excuse for unethical behavior?

Dr. Sack explains that experts in the field are beginning to recognize that compulsive sexual activity has many things in common with others kinds of addiction. He sees Tiger Woods as someone who has always been very private and has been very careful in managing is public image. He says that the mere fact that he continued his inappropriate sexual behavior in spite of all the problems it could cause in his life shows that compulsive sexual behavior is a lot like other substance addictions. Neurologists are seeing that there is the same kind of brain chemistry in sex addiction as there is with every other kind of addiction. Drugs used for Parkinson patients raise the level of dopamine in the brain. We know that drugs that reward people, that is the drugs that people abuse, all raise brain dopamine. Not surprisingly, in their Parkinson patients they are seeing all these impulsive behaviors: impulsive spending, impulsive drug use and impulsive sexual behavior. All these things we associate with increased dopamine seem to be true for compulsive sexual behavior.

Promises Addiction Treatment Center is located in a gorgeous setting atom the cliffs in Malibu overlooking the Pacific ocean. He says that being in a beautiful setting helps on several levels. For one, generally the patients that are treated at Promises are successful or come from successful families who are used to living in these kinds of environments. He wants the entire focus of their stay at Promises to be on their recovery and growth, and not be distracted by things like bad food and a hard bed. He says he wants to give patients every reason not to fight the treatment.

BRAD AND ANGELINA:
MULTI-RELIGION HOUSEHOLD

Angelina loves being a mother and says her children are her favorite people. "They are just so much fun and I get to watch who they are becoming everyday."

Angelina and Brad expose their children to many different cultures and religions and are raising them to respect everyone. They take their kids to places of worship all over the world.

They have a bookshelf in the house that has the Bible, the Torah, and the Koran.

They take them to church, Buddhist ceremonies and mosques, teaching them about all faiths. She wants her kids to be open as she too continues to do more for society. They say that whatever religion the children will follow will be up to the children. She says she respects all religions.

Although it may seem as though Angelina has experienced everything there is to experience, she is still curious. "I want to better understand the world I live in and I want to learn how to be more effective."

HOW TO:
MAKE IT IN HOLLYWOOD

Ever wonder why some celebrities make it and some don’t? Even though they might not be the most talented or the best, there is something they are all doing right. I say this, whoever makes it undoubtedly wants it more than the next guy. No matter how much you think you want it - you have to do exactly what is necessary to get where you want to go. That’s where many stop short. You think you want it, but you’re just too lazy to get it. Much MORE is what is needed.

Here is what some celebrities say about what it takes to make it.

Vin Diesel is not a guy destined to be an Oscar winner but he still made it and is very successful. Vin says just do it!

“My advice to people who want to pursue their dream is to find anyway that they can to make product. My philosophy is that product is the most important thing. I started acting when I was seven years old and I didn’t get paid as an actor until I did Saving Private Ryan and I was 30 at that time so there was many, many years of unemployment. What I learned later was that I had to have something. I had to have product regardless of how big or small it was”.

Here is what Josh Hartnett advises. He is another actor not likely expected to be a huge star. “Just trust yourself the rest will follow. If you really believe in it you’ll have a better chance. If you don’t and you listen to what everyone else says it’s easy to get lost.”

Christian Slater says: “Don’t give up, just keep going and everything works out the way it’s supposed to.”

When you ask Donald Trump, it's all about perseverance. He says of all the people he has seen, the big failures have been those that give up and quit. “Don’t ever quit or give up.”

For those who want to have a successful career in Hollywood whether it be in entertainment or anything else. I can tell you this:

  • Start early and practice.
  • Get as much experience, knowledge and insight into the inner workings of what you want.
  • Go really in depth - learn about your field inside out.
  • Know what your competitors are doing and do more than they have done.
  • Make daily, weekly and yearly goals non-stop. Once you reach them, make new ones.
  • Find a coach ASAP. No matter what field you are in, you need a coach, a mentor, someone who has made it where you want to be. You don’t know all it takes to get there. Those who are there obviously do.

YOUTUBE:
HOW JUSTIN BIEBER DID IT

Now turning to a topic that many may be wondering about these days. How the heck do you post a video on YouTube and then become a star?

Angelina Jolie may have had 38 magazine covers last year but the kid that will be on the Forbes Top 100 Celebrities list next year- mark my words - is Justin Bieber.

So how exactly did this 16-year old phenomenon do it?

He has 3.2 million Twitter followers who keep abreast of his every move and his debut album My World is the second largest opening of any album last year.

It all started when he posted himself singing on YouTube and then came the mega fame. Bieber says he doesn’t really think about his fame. He loves his career and has fun doing it.

He is really soaking it up. His life has now moved him from Stratford, Ontario to Atlanta, writing much of his own music and being home schooled. By the way, this kid is really talented. He plays piano, drums, guitar and trumpet.

What was the process? Now take notes people.

Bieber had participated in a small singing competition in Stratford, Ontario. Many of his friends and family members who couldn’t make the show asked that he send them the video. The file was too large to attach in an email so he decided to upload it onto YouTube instead. He started seeing his video getting hits and the number kept growing. He then decided to post most videos.

Before he was signed, he ended up posting 10 YouTube videos. First, he got an email from Maury Povich who wanted him on the show. His mother didn't think it was a good fit so she declined. Then management companies began to call - they said no - because they didn’t have a lawyer. Now remember, this is a kid from the small town of Stratford Ontario, his mother a web designer and all this came fast and furiously.

After many calls and not letting up, his current manager, a man named Scooter got Bieber and his mom on a plane to Atlanta to talk business and sold both mother and son on the idea. Then Usher got involved by chance. Coincidentally, Bieber was at the studio for a meeting at the same time that Usher was there. That is where they got acquainted. Eventually, he ended meeting Justin Timberlake. Bieber’s manager had worked with Timberlake in the *NSYNC days and introduced him. Both Timberlake and Usher were interested in signing him.

Justin Bieber is now signed with Island Def Jam with Usher.

FILM NEWS:
JAMIE FOXX PRODUCTION COMPANY

Now turning to the trends that have stars starting up their own production companies. The latest is Jamie Foxx setting up a second one. He has joined forces with writer-director-producer Deon Taylor to launch a production company called No Brainer Films.

It's Los Angeles-based and will focus on developing, financing, writing, directing and producing mainstream films and TV series budgeted at under $10 million.

First up from No Brainer is the TV series Tommy's Little Girl, created by Foxx, who is co-writing and co-directing with Taylor. They plan to sell to cable networks. It’s a mob drama starring Selma Blair, and Paul Sorvino.

Foxx and Taylor will continue to run their individual production companies, Foxx-King Entertainment and Deon Taylor Enterprises, which produce larger-budgeted projects.

Foxx's next appearance is in November in the Warner Bros. comedy Due Date opposite Robert Downey Jr.

LIFE LESSONS:
WILL SMITH

Now turning to wise words of trendsetting actor Will Smith and a philosophy as to what makes someone successful in Hollywood. This multi-talented actor definitely has the success and the accomplishments to back up his words. He says: “The separation of talent and skill is one of the greatest misunderstood (concepts) for people who are trying to excel, who have dreams, who want to do things. Talent you have naturally. Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft. For me, I feel like I have a relationship with the audience. They agree they are going to go in droves and I agree that every time they go, I’m going to be better than the last time.”

WORDS OF WISDOM:
GOLDIE HAWN, SUSAN SARANDON, HENRY WINKLER

So how do stars stay grounded in Hollywood? For stars like Goldie Hawn it’s pretty clear. She meditates, does a lot of studying and has very strong discipline. She says it’s important to stay grounded not only in the entertainment industry but in life in general, because life is basically what we make of it.

Susan Sarandon says the most important lessons for her are: don’t take anything for granted, be courageous, stay curious and don’t play it safe.

Henry Winkler, considered a mentor in Hollywood, advises: “This is my whole advice: tenacity. Believe in yourself, believe in your idea and be tenacious because eventually you will win. If you will it, it is not a dream.” How he stays grounded?I think a lot about who I am in the universe and that I must somehow matter.” He adds, that he must make sure of this before he’s dead.

DONALD TRUMP: ONLINE GAMBLING

Unlike casino mogul Steve Wynn, Donald Trump is supporting new legislation that would legalize online gambling, saying the Big Apple and other cities need the tax dollars.

He says: "Why lose all those billions of revenue? Online gaming is taking over, so we might as well have it work to the public's advantage."

When it comes to business advice for us, he says people should be sharp, be smart, be alert, should not quit and not give up. He adds the big failures have been those people who give up.

Trump says he’s more hard working than people make him out to be. People think he leads a wonderful life of supermodels and high finance which only takes a few minutes a day. The truth is he works very hard, enjoys what he does, and doesn’t take a lot of vacations.

UNAUTHORIZED BIOGRAPHY: ANGELINA JOLIE

It could be anyone pictured on the cover of Andrew Morton's latest celebrity tell-all, 'Angelina: An Unauthorized Biography,' but you definitely see her trademark "Know Your Rights" tattoo across her upper back. This is a very controversial book.

The cover shows her photographed from behind – with only the back of her head and upper torso visible.

Published by St. Martin's Press , the book is due out August 3, 2010.

She may be doing good things these days but according to this book, she was one bad girl. Andrew Morton claims that she slept with her mother's live-in boyfriend when she was just 16-years-old.

It is said she was unable to come to terms with her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, after the unspeakable affair. Marcheline was very much in love with this man.

The two allegedly struggled for years to repair their damaged relationship.

"Her mother found out and ended her relationship with the man."

Morton goes on to say that when Angelina admitted the story to her brother James recently. Morton says even he turned on her and that she has hardly anyone left in life who likes or trusts her.

CELEB TALK:
SYLVESTER STALLONE

63-year-old Sylvester Stallone says retirement is nearing. He says he's on "borrowed time" and will soon no longer feel comfortable in front of the camera. He hopes to continue his career by mirroring Clint Eastwood's directing.

"I hear the ticking clock and it's as loud as the going on Big Ben" says Stallone. Stallone is in talks with mobster the late John Gotti's son Junior John Gotti to turn his memories about his strained relationship with his father into a big screen movie. They are close to signing a deal.

Gotti Sr., who was the ruthless head of the powerful Gambino crime family, was convicted in 1992 for his involvement in the murders of 13 people. He died behind bars in 2002. Junior, was released from prison in 2005 after serving time for racketeering.

CONSPICIOUS CONSUMPTION IS OUT

As people are questioning and frowning upon conspicuous consumption - large luxury companies such as Gucci and hugely paid celebrities such as Madonna are giving back like never before. At the last New York Fashion Week - Madonna and Gucci raised money with a show to raise money for Unicef and for Malawi - the country where Madonna adopted a child and, she says, lost her heart.

Instead of celebrating the opening of its giant flagship on Fifth Avenue with a big spending party in the three-story store, Gucci chose to underwrite the benefit to "give something back." All profits and pledges went directly to Raising Malawi, Madonna's charity, and to the Unicef Schools for Africa effort. Gucci now supports programs in Malawi and Mozambique for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS..

Madonna, the singer and philanthropist says her signing career has allowed her to give back. She says something very big has changed in her since she began travelling to Africa.Madonna's aim is to create in Malawi, an academy offering education to girls b 2010.

HOW CELEBRITIES STRENGTHEN BRANDS

Just how powerful is it when they're wearing a product and it gets photographed?

A celebrity can strengthen a brand, raise visibility overnight and ultimately increase sales. We know luxury goods and high-end jewelry brands depend a lot on celebs and there have also been successful alliances between Nike and Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Gillette and Anna Kornikova and Omega watches...Celebrities are now arbiters of good taste. What they wear becomes a branding benchmark of what's in. Neil Lane Hollywood jeweler to Madonna, Charlize Theron, Naomi Campbell, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Reese Witherspoon says Hollywood celebs have an impact - not only on what we see as style - but as glamour and the Hollywood dream. He says stars have increased his sales. He remembers Gwyneth Paltrow wore his jewels to the Oscars a few years ago, and he received a call from a lady in Indiana who wanted to buy them but he told her Gwyneth bought them....so he made her a similar set....She then turned into a good customer and bought dozens of pieces in past few years.

Le Vian Jewelers here in Hollywood, dress many stars for the red carpet and are known for their chocolate diamonds. Celebrity endorsement in a 'campaign' is very different though than dressing a star for the red carpet....having a brand 'spokesman' means they're the face of the company for better or worse... a celeb chosen for a campaign must epitomize the brand ideals and also be a serious respected star. They must be someone that people look up to as a trendsetter...and if so...then such campaigns can sustain sales for a long time. Bottom line: celebs create trends - trends create sales.
