He has been said to take audiences in directions few other filmmakers are able to do in a movie, from moments of humor to horror in an instant without making it jarring.
This year the Korean Film Council has allocated 100 billion won for film development. That is a 32% increase over last year. To South Koreans, the Oscar wins are an affirmation that South Korea is a cultural powerhouse, has now made history and is now entrenched due to recognition.
