MEDITATION BRAIN GYMS ARE BOOMING

Meditation and Mindfulness Studios in LA and NY are trending like never before! Make sure you stop by Unplug next time you're in L.A. It's an experience you have not had before but will be memorable.

Meditation studios like Unplug in L.A.and MNDFL are amazing and attendance is booked. Meditation - even though it's been around for 2,500 years - is now a top trend. Google and Apple, even encourage employees to meditate — everyones doing it and if you have done it you know it works. Meditation is now part of pop culture. No longer a luxury to find time to do but a necessity. Meditation studios and classes are the way to slow down since that  smartphone is making us crazy. If you want to make your mind function better and find meaning in your life, meditation is the best way. Meditation is part of the current wellness trend and now the thing professional athletes and high-level achievers are doing to enhance performance, their lives and careers.

Meditation is rooted in Buddhism but today it's so mainstream and it's easy for everyone to understand.

At Unplug in L.A. (a fabulous place I recently did an AP TV news report on) - they say - "meditation may cause increased happiness, decreased stress, reduced anxiety, increased focus, higher test scores, optimism, better health and inner peace."

Unplug is a guided-meditation studio that offers 30 and 45-minute drop-in classes in a modern and calming atmosphere owned by mega meditation lover and businesswoman Suzy Yalof Schwartz. Unplugs inspirational guides effortlessly move you in and out of your meditation.  The mission is to demystify, deconstruct and make meditation easy and convenient. It's the creation of former Vogue and Glamour editor, Suzy Yalof Schwartz who left New York, moved to L.A. and opened Unplug, calling it “a SoulCycle for meditation." Schwartz used to appear on the national morning TV shows giving fashion and beauty makeover tips - so she took that experience and turned it into a well tuned school. Saying that her TV training influenced her class structure. She approaches the school like the organized TV segments she used to be part of.  She tells her teachers not to go on and on when you can say the same thing in a minute - just like in TV.

The room at Unplug is just great - large and airy, clean mats on a hardwood floor, thick drapes on windows, pink and violet ceiling lights, and instructors in front of the class elevated slightly to get a birds eye view of everyone.

Classes are a total of either 30 or 45 minutes: 5 minutes to slowly settle into the room and 5-10 minutes to exit and ask questions, with either 20 or 30 minutes of guided meditation in between.

All classes are led by teachers whose voices make you relax and whose personalities make you want to hang out with them. It’s that easy.

Here's how it works:

Step 1 Pre-register on our app, online or just walk in.

Step 2 Wear whatever you are wearing, just toss your shoes and cell phone in one of our cubbies. Cell phones will not be allowed inside the studio.

Step 3 Enter the studio and take a seat.

Step 4 Listen to your guide, who instructs you to close your eyes and lead you in a meditation.

Step 5 With your guide’s instruction, gently emerge from your meditation.

Step 6 Leave at your leisure.

Reap the benefits.
