This one wanted to be T2 but it was not. Skydance, Paramount, and Fox/Disneys Terminator: Dark Fate bombed its opening weekend and this was so predictable. Why would they green light this in the first place? Let's save the world yet again. Please. Let's not. The sixth movie should now be the last and opening weekend numbers agreed. The last three tries also failed so someone please get the memo.
$29 million opening weekend from 4,086 theaters even though it was #1. But what a 1. No one wanted this story again other than the producers Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger are not it. China couldn't even save it. $28 million for a global total of $123.6 million on opening weekend. The movie cost a massive $185 million to produce and that is BEFORE all the marketing. It faces losses of $120 million-plus for partners.
It's time to let this franchise go to the great beyond, Wall Street analyst Eric Handler of MKM Partners.
This one was directed by Deadpool's Tim Miller. (He should be doing more and more Deadpool's, not this.) It was written by David S. Goyer, Justin Rhodes and Bill Ray. But this is a franchise that has had it's time.  The franchise has died, despite how many they made up until 2015.
The story picks up since Terminator 2: Judgement Day in 1991, trying to ignore Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines in 2003 and Terminator Salvation in 2009 and Terminator Gensys in 2015.  Let's just please forget those. Definitely let's forget them.  This newest version just rehashes the same ol' same ol' visual effects and painfully dull and ridiculous speech to the point of nauseam (Oh God). The movie moves at a non stop pace and it gets old quickly. With Rev-9 coming back over and over with not sign of weakness but built of teflon is exhausting and just plain silly. The dialogue that Hamilton says it's useless. The speech between Hamilton and Schwarzenegger boring.
The story goes like this: Dani Ramos played by Natalia Reyes, a car factory worker is living in Mexico City with her brother who is played by Diego Boneta and father. A Terminator - Rev-9 - played by Gabriel Luna is out to kill poor Dani. Dani joins up with Grace played by a solid Mackenzie Davis and guess who - tough Sarah Connor - played again by Linda Hamilton is back. Why I have no idea and finally -  T-800, Arnold Schwarzenegger is here to - guess what? Save the darn day.
Bottom line and now that opening weekend numbers came out, even more: This plot is dated and passed its time. Having Arnold saving the world for women is beyond passe today and locked just plain  in 2016. In case no one took notice on the producing side - times have changed and some stories no longer serve their purpose gentlemen other than to be relegated to old schtick - that now feels comical and out of touch.
Terminator 10: Arnold saved by a band of women. Ordered to do so by the female POTUS.
